Marshall was pushing this matter as hard as anybody out there, but there hasn't been anything to report about it for weeks, far as I can tell. So he hasn't had much to say about it either. Then suddenly it comes up again. Cuz of this "earth movers" quote? I guess. But I'm really intrigued at Marshall's line on this, after quoting the two sources:
If you slap the press around enough and keep your people's mouths shut you usually get what you want.
Usually ...It's that "
Usually..." that gets me. Maybe I'm just being over-optimistic, but it sounds a bit like he knows something. He likes to drop hints when he knows some issue or story is coming up, and it almost sounds like that's what this is.
At the very least, I'd like to know whether Wilson is actively pursuing the civil angle, as he seemed to be starting out to do a couple of months ago. John Dean recommended this as being the thing that really cracked Watergate--the civil discovery process and whatnot kept the heat on an administration that was hoping to kick the can down the road, just like these guys. Couple of weeks ago I rooted around the web looking for anything about such a suit being brought and came up empty. But I don't assume nothing's happening on that front--such legal processes never progress as quickly as you want. I'm still expecting the Plame affair to come back to life; I don't think Wilson is of a mind to just let it go.
