(DEAN - CLARK) / Go Watch Your Future: The Grapes of Wrath
Edited on Sat Dec-13-03 10:05 PM by Must_B_Free
This movie is available if you want to see the future of America.

You have no wages. You have a family to support. You heard there was work far away so you pack up everything and leave.

You have no healthcare, so your elderly die on the way.

You manage to make it there, but you find that there is no work, that dries up a long time ago, but you heard there is some up north. So you head up there.

You arrive and find work, but you also find that you have to live in their quarters to work for them. The rent, coincidentally, costs the same as the wages you earn.

Welcome to the Bush's New World Order.

We're all Okies now.

1. the GOP doesn't even hide that this is their goal!!!
the extremists running the GOP openly proclaim they want to get rid of the New Deal and bring us back to those wonderful days before Roosevelt.

I like that tag line: "We're all Okies now"

2. Tom Joad for President
“Well, maybe like Casy says, a fella ain’t got a soul of his own, but on’y a piece of a big one...Then it don’ matter. Then I’ll be around in the dark. I’ll be everywhere--wherever you look. Wherever there’s a fight so hungry people can eat, I’ll be there. Wherever there’s a cop beating up a guy, I’ll be there. If Casy knowed, why, I’ll be in the way guys yell when they’re mad an’--I’ll be in the way kids laugh when they’re hungry an’ they know supper’s ready...”

from the Grapes of Wrath

I cry everytime I see that scene from the movie. A must watch for anyone who is progressively minded.

3. I know what you're saying, but I think...
...it will be a little different than the Grapes of Wrath.

I think it will be more like Mexico.

In Mexico, there isn't much of a middle class. There's a couple dozen ultra-uber-wealthy families who essentially own the county, and everyone else has a pot a beans on a wood stove and a dirt floor.

The nation with the largest number of millionaires is America; Mexico is second with more millionaires than Germany (for example). Yet 40 percent of the people earn less than 25 pesos (about $2.50 USD) a day.

That's what we're looking at - a pot of beans and a dirt floor. Or maybe if we're really lucky, we can get a trailer next to Bob Boudelang.

4. One of my all time favorites..............
I would guess I've seen it more than 10 times. The acting (like all movies of it's time) was a little over the top, hammy, whatever you want to call it, but the message was and is the thing.

5. That film ran on Thanksgiving one year
...and completely ruined the meal. None of us could bear to eat!
