My original post was about how some, in other threads, had limited this to the effect it would have on just the Dean Campaign. I clearly recall more than one of the presidential candidates commenting on the fact that "we don't know where Saddam is" during the many debates. Why bring that up if it is irrelevant?

I find it hard to believe that the capture of Saddam is irrevelant in the eyes of the average Iraqi. Frankly I imagine it is far from irrevelant in the eyes of many in the Middle East.

Finally, if it is irrelevant, why are there so many threads today on DU about the capture?

The simple answer is that this is NOT irrelevant. To pretend so is just whistling past the graveyard. This is a significant event. It may turn out to be a plus or a minus for Bush depending on how things are handled but it will not turn out to be irrelevant.

the attacks will not stop in Iraq and we still don't have the guy behind 9/11. Sure Saddam was a bad guy but he's not the one who flew planes into buildings and killed 3000 people.

Plus, at the rate we're going coupled with a promise from insurgents that attacks will pick up, we're probably going to catch up with Saddam's Iraqi body-count eventually.
