My whole beef with this invasion has been about the innocents there.

Not everyone is political.

What about the poor guy just trying to support his family. First he had to deal with Saddams' regime. Then he has to deal with 10 years of sanctions that did nothing to curtail the atrocities of Saddam, it just hurt the people trying to survive.
Next he gets a "shock and awe" campaign that rained bombs down on his neighborhood.

Finally he has something to celebrate.


While I was and still am against the invasion, I'm happy that the innocent Iraqi's finally have a day to feel good.

Sadly, I think the happiness will be short lived. The killings will get worse. It's still a quagmire with no end in sight. The innocents are still suffering. We need to leave.

Saddam is a bad guy, but there are families in Iraq that were torn apart and innocent civilians that were killed due to this action taken by the US. Sorry, I cannot be happy for the actions Bush has taken. I didn't say you were for tyranny so why are you telling me you aren't?

My point was, we have gone over and over the evil of this war and what it has done to the Iraqi people. It is all true.

But we shouldn't forget that Saddam was an evil bastard, and that there are Iraqis that are joyful that he has been caught, even if we disagree with how he was caught.

To bring up what we have done, in response to that, seems like saying, "what does it matter, we killed people too." Well, it matters to those who suffered under Saddam as much as putting Bush in jail would matter to those we bombed.

15. I think this is great news for the Iraqi people....

as there was always the fear of Saddam returning. I wonder, though, if this will cause the Iraqi people to expect things in Iraq to change quickly which they won't. They will still be without consistent electrical services, without fuel for their vehicles, etc. Unless Bush and his cabal can change the living conditions quickly, I have little doubt the Iraqi people will continue to be very unhappy about the occupation.

Now is the time to demand that the reconstruction of Iraq be turned over to the UN. Lots of countries have said they are willing to send lots of troops and money to Iraq if the UN is in charge. We can bring American troops and money home. Make Bush defend the continued occupation and exploitation of Iraq.

There have been a number of turning points where we could have turned it over to UN oversight -- the first was before we went in, the second was the fall of Baghdad, the third was the elimination of the two sons. This may be our last chance. If we waste it, we'll lose the energy and goodwill generated by this event.

The capture of Saddam will not change the security situation fundamentally (foreign jihadis, fundamentalists revivalists, etc.), but it does generate good will. It's goodwill that's basically "use it or lose it." We need to capitalize on it ASAP.

I find it sad that DUers need to put a political spin on everything.

Bush has his many faults and capturing Sadam won't change them, but there is no reason to down play or try to put a liberal spin on the capture of Sadam. This is exactly what the general American public can't stand about liberals (and yes I know Republican are the same way, but their simpleton views are easy for Americans to understand).

People can deny it all they want, but is quite apparant that many here are the types of people who root for a bad economy and the war in Iraq to go poorly, just so we can win the election.

Democrats need to stop it with the gimick politics. We analyze the issues way too much. Instead of constantly proclaiming we will win the next election on the War and the economy, we should just shut-up and run on our core values.
