Is it hopeless?
The economy is improving.

With Saddam gone, the quagmire in Iraq may soon be over.

How the hell are we going to win with any candidate?

25. Yes, and now maybe the internal
candidate bashing of each other will cease as *bush gains momentum. *bush is the enemy, not each other.....

for the candidates that have no shot at beating bush in the general election.

19. Someone has probably already mentioned this
This is my first thread of the morning, so I haven't yet read all the posts this morning but, with Saddam gone, yes the people of Iraq will feel more secure.....more secure to join Al Queda or other insurgency groups. Since Saddam was a mortal enemy of the religious fundamentalists, now they will be reassured that they can speak out and perhaps even act out their feelings ( a la Iran )

They could also say, "Saddam's gone, now leave"

why don't you just join up with them? Because, in essence that is what you are doing.

8. You Are Probably Going To Get Flamed...
I remember a quote from Vincent Bugliosi about truth tellers... It's some Armenian proverb or whatever nationality he is...

" A truth teller will be chased out of every village."

Bush will be extremely difficult to beat and I find the comparisons between him and his old man facile....

12. Just remember the candidate with the vision is the one that wins. . .
. . .the Democrat primary and has the best chance of beating Bush in November. Our path to victory cannot rely on Bush/GOP failure:

24. I Think We Have To Approach This Election
as Bush is the prohibitive favorite....

but the election is eleven months way....

The benchmarks are:

-the war on terror

- the unemployment rate

-the stock market

-the situation in Iraq

These benchamarks will determine if Bush is rehired or fired....

bush sucks!

surely right-thinking Americans hate that secretive little smarmy weasel who lines the pockets of his buddies with blood money while continuing the erosion of our freedoms

14. It will be hopless if we continue to keep saying immature things
Instead of approaching things rationally. Saying no blood for oil at this point isn't going to help move things forward. The bad part is that everything that would work in Shrub's favor is GOOD for the country.

Maybe focusing on Hilary in 2008 is the way to go. I really can't think of anything to hope for that would hurt Booosh that wouldn't hurt the country. :(

I sort of have grown accustomed to this place...since being born here.

10. Wrong on all counts
You need to quit watching Faux News.

I don't care what they tell you, the economy is NOT improving.

The quagmire in Iraq will not be over anytime soon.

You need to find a new source for your talking points.

Julie

11. The quagmire might end, but it probably won't happen soon,
and it will very likely get worse.

And the economy is not improving. Jobs are still being outsourced, wages and salaries have been slashed, unions are under attack (and many unions have been corrupted anywhoe), people have lost their life savings, and on and on. It's really bleak.

This is the kind of attitude we need to win:

13. I knew it...
I knew when I checked in at Democratic Underground there'd be some pitiful posts like yours. Jobs? Enron? DEAD U.S. TROOPS? Stonewalling the 9/11 commission. Tax breaks for the wealthy. Oh, all that's forgotten now, because we've nabbed the ruthless dictator who was supported by so many GOP administrations.

DON'T GIVE IN TO WORST CASE SCENARIOS.

18. Why Do We Have To Construct Our Own AlternateRealities...
It reminds me of wingers saying thing were awful under Clinton when the opposite was obviously true....

The econmomy is improving... Something like 90% of blue chip economists expect the GDP to grow at 4% rate in 04....

Of course this isn't a "fair economy" but as long as there are more haves than have nots the stautus quo ususually prevails...

If the equities markets are rising and unemployement is lowering in 04 Bush will be hard to beat...

It's just a fact.... A bitterly unpleasant fact but a fact nonetheless...

I hope the left doesn't become like the Indians at Wounded Knee who after have their land taken and their culture destroyed by the government gave into their despair by doing the Ghost Dance in the belief that they would resurrect their ancestors to liberate them... That only got them massacred...

Alternate Realities were the last refuge of the broken...

16. The economy is not good for most of us
The economy may be good for some businesses but many of us remain unemployed, jobs are still going overseas. The deficit is still growing and will bankrupt the government threating any social programs including social security. Medicare is on the ropes and costs for drugs will be going up while seniors will not be able to buy loop hole insurance and cannot buy drugs from Canada where prices are lower than in the US.
Bush & Co continue to decrease taxes on the wealth and corporations while increasing taxes on everyone else. Wealth is being drained from the poor and middle class and is being given to the already wealthy.
More and more people will be forced to take less in their paychecks while the cost of basic necessities will not decline.

Yes things are great! Saddam has been caught. Life is good!

20. By building a grassroots campaign
and getting the vote out. There are plenty of issues out there.

At best case estimate there will remain a 2 million job deficit by Nov. 2004.

"No Child Left Behind" will still be leaving millions of kids behind.

The budget deficit will still be setting new records and faith in the dollar will not be strong. (higher interest rates are coming)

Environmental issues are not going to be fixed.

Millions will still have no health insurance.

Corporations will still be outsourcing good jobs away.

(note, these are all domestic issues)

Remember, Repubilcans have not won the popular vote for President since 1988. It is entirely possible for Democrats to win it again.
