What would our country look like if we get 4 more years of Bush?
I do not see a lot of good news on the horizon. If Bush is elected, I would expect the huge deficits to continue and I would expect the economy to go into another slump, very much like his father's, and I would expect that the working people would be much like those under the Reagan Administation. There will be jobs but they will not pay as well as some have been accustomed to and there will be the fear amongst many workers that if they lose their job, they may never get another one. There was a similar fear with workers during the Reagan years. This permitted an exploitation of working people unseen in several decades. I suspect the same working environment would exist under another Bush Administration.

I would expect social programs to be cut or sly attempts to increase taxes on working and middle-class people, just like under Reagan, when they taxed unemployment benefits and increased Social Security (FICA) taxes. This will be brought upon us because of the huge deficits caused by the huge taxcuts, just like under Reagan. I would expect every class of people in America, except the wealthy, to be worse off at the end of a Bush second term.

3. Mordor is about right....but....
I think it would look more like Hitler's beloved Third Reich. :eyes:
Everybody serving in the military. Those that are dissenters being
tortured in jail...
Perpetual war...

Too depressing.

He saw what was happening to his country and he knew he had to get away. I think about him a lot these days.

29. An honest opinion
If the economy does well for the next 9 months, Iraq gets better and we capture bin Laden, Bush will win fairly easily... then he'll push through more tax cuts and favors for the wealthy and for big business... we'll invade another country (Syria? Iran? Cuba?) ... the VRWC will consolidate their stranglehold on the media... school prayer is passed... a left-leaning supreme court justice will either retire or pass away to be replaced by a fire-breathing young right winger... the Patriot Act gets expanded a bit and any protests are shouted down by the media.

The deficits will explode, of course... but, since we're still fighting the war on terror. The gap expands and the richest 1% of the country control over 50% of the wealth and most folks are brainwashed into thinking they deserve it or that they are in that 1%.

Then, in 2008, Jeb Bush runs for president.

21. Have fun!
Just pity us when more and more of us are suffering because all the "D" voters decided to move away, helping * an apparent landslide victory.

Mordor will look like paradise when compared to the U.S. if Bush wins in 2004.

4. It won't stop at 4
I would expect a few more terror attacks, and the imprisonment dissenters. I would also plan on Republicans controling EVERYTHING, all courts, an overwhelming majority of Congress, and most states. Once that happens, who needs elections? There is no time for it, we are at war with the terrorists, remember?

11. New member
Hello! I am a new DU member. I am French Canadian (so forgive me for the bad spelling....) but quite interested on what's happening south of the borderWhile I am quite happy about the capture of Saddam, I am also worried that your present President will get reelected next year. Actually, I am more concerned about all the "hawks" that fly around him and dictate the foreign policy of the USA. I certainly hope that the Democrats will find the best candidate to defy him in 2004 and that when he (or she) is choosen, you ALL get behind him (or her) and support him (or her). The main goal is to get that moron out of the White house as soon as possible!

13. If the majority vote for him...
...I have no sympathy for them. They deserve what they get.

The next election will be about what this nation values most: people or corporations. If the majority trusts corporations to do what's right for America, they will get screwed! Granted, they will get screwed while embracing the almighty God and wrapped in the the almighty American flag, with images of eagles on all their conservative websites to make them feel mighty, and listening to all their patriotic speeches, meanwhile America will be increasingly scorned (and feared) by the rest of the world, but the masses will have a big smile on their face the whole time they're being screwed.

19. Dickensonian England
Now social programs, no safety net, perpetual war, draft, very bleak for the poor. On the other hand if you happen to be rich then things will look very good indeed.

23. I don't think the changes will be as flambouyant as some predict
The only thing I know for certain is that if Bush wins the election next year, America will continue to drift farther away from the world community. The start of a new cold war between the US and the EU would become a possibility.

24. You're insinuating that we'll still.........
be a country. I just had this talk with my Mom. 4 more years may bring us civil war. In 4 more years the average Joe may have awakened from his slumber and wondered what the hell happened to America while he was sleeping. bush has such contempt for the working class that the "poor people will rise up and take what's theirs" (words by Tracy Chapman). It cannot last forever (the reign of bush). There will be a revolution.

25. Much like the last four years
All the trees lumbered, the sky black from coal energy, every square inch of wilderness trampled by cattle and humans, nazi storm troopers in the streets checking papers, gays and unmarried couples imprisoned, all child abortion banned, martial law across the land, oil wells in the Grand Canyon, riots in the streets, sharecropper slavery rampant, child labor and deaths in the factories, shortages of needed goods for the war effort and general chaos.
