There's No Free Lunch
A jobless recovery may be the ultimate Catch-22 for liberals. They're bummed out, because it bodes well for George W. Bush's re-selection campaign, but they obviously don't want to tell the world they're bummed out by an improving economy lest they be labeled wishy-washy liberals. Then again, they wonder if the recovery is genuine; isn't a "jobless" recovery kind of like an ice cream cone without the ice cream?

I suspect candidates might do well by putting this question on their campaign websites:

How are YOU doing?

Such a message would resonate with the millions of Americans who have been laid off, seen their salaries or benefits reduced or lost their life savings to Enron.

Next candidates should post the words THERE'S NO FREE LUNCH, followed by an exercise in logic.

1. Unemployment remains high.

2. You get less for your money. If you're one of the lucky few who got a pay raise, is it keeping up with increased utilities that reflect deregulation? Microshaft software? Ever crappier public schools? A ruined environment?

3. Unions amd workers are under constant assault by the corporate White House.

4. Many workers have already lost OVERTIME; Bush may get the remainder after he steals the White House again.

5. You'll probably never see a penny of Social Security if it's privatized.

6. Instability is bad for the economy, and Instability is George Bush's middle name.

7. Ours is a war economy. If you have any sense of ethics or decency, you should be very disturbed. Even if you don't care how we treat other nations, just remember that they can strike back. The economy could collapse in a heartbeat if George W. Bush starts another war, gets us into a trade war, or provokes terrorists to launch the ultimate attack against us.

8. No one loves George Bush more than the super rich. Ask yourself why.

1. Well Said...
Saddam's capture is irrelevant.

The war was illegal.
The war killed thousands of innocent iraqis and hundreds of US troops.
The neo-cons supported Saddam until his usefulness wore thin.

The question of the economy MUST BE REPHRASED. It is not telling to ask whether the economy is working. We must ask, 'for whom is the economy working?"

The point is, the ammunition is plentiful, if the democrats have balls enough to use it.

2. #7
It would be so easy for them to do as well.

Given the actions of the * cabal, the rest of the world has been very tolerant.

If Bush is elected legitimately this time, they might stop being so tolerant. Personally, I cannot blame them and I would hardly be against them if they chose to strike back. The US is the oddest superpower ever because, apart from our WMDs and quest to make new and utterly frightning ones that you know * will use, everything we need and get comes from foreign labor! All the foreigners of the world essentially support us.

We've indeed got a lot to worry about.

3. CNN had a very concise explanation of this the other day

Don't remember which talking head, the subject was actually Iraq, they were explaining that the Iraqi people have to adjust, they are used to a socialist economy that gave them everything, now they have a democracy, and fewer people will have jobs, but those who do will make more money.

Maybe the US is just becoming more of a democracy
