1. What do you mean?
Do you have a problem with the statement Dean made today about the capture of Saddam Hussein or are you talking about any future statements that he might make?

Frankly, I do not think that Hussein's capture will benefit Bush in the long run. Many have assumed that Hussein's capture will demoralize the Iraqi opposition and reduce the number of attacks against U.S. troops. Unfortunately, I fear that Hussein's capture will not stop acts of violence because I do not believe that most of the members of the opposition are fans of Hussein. They may have other motivations. For example, they may want to establish an Islamic state or they may feel that resisting an occupying army is patriotic. If they continue their attacks, Hussein's capture will have changed nothing.

Even if the optimists are correct and Hussein's capture does lead to a stable Iraq, Bush may still not benefit. In his attempts to justify the invasion, Bush argued that Iraq had weapons of mass destruction and that Hussein was an evil man. With Hussein in custody, it's going to be harder for Bush to justify the continuing occupation of Iraq to the Iraqis, America's allies and to the American people. Indeed, Bush may have to choose between reelection and allowing his corporate buddies (Halliburton) to continue screwing the American taxpayer.

4. Hussein was not the only problem
he was a problem and that problem will start ratchting down now thought it wont stop immediately. Pretty quick though depending on whether or not that 750K was all the money they had left.

3. Just because Saddam was captured today
doesn't mean that the war was justified. It was still an illegal, immoral war. It's been presented as if there were two and only two choices: go to war regardless of world opinion, or leave Saddam in power. Remember that the initial excuse was weapons of mass destruction, and that he was so close to launching them at us we couldn't allow another 30 days for weapons inspectors to do their jobs. Well, nearly a year after the invasion guess what? No WMDs. And almost no mention of them in recent months either.

Not that any of us here ever thought the war was about anything but raw power and domination of the Middle East.

Notice now that the ground is being laid for a possible draft. There's a lot of talk about how our forces are being stretched thin, and how when they rotate troops in a few more months things will be oh, so scary. Surely there are choices besides rotating all the troops at once, aren't there? But again, we're being given a no-choice scenario.
