Army Orders Troops to Have Their Own Pet Killed

Unbelievable.

It's against the rules for U.S. soldiers in Iraq to have pets, but the skinny black puppy that wandered up to the Florida National Guard soldiers at a base in northern Iraq wouldn't go away.

So the soldiers from Alpha Co. of the 2nd Battalion of the 124th Infantry Regiment adopted the mutt and named her Apache after their radio call sign.

But Army regulations finally caught up with Alpha Co. and Apache.

Family members said Wednesday that the soldiers were eventually forced to obey orders and have the dog killed.

1. I just read this earlier and it makes me sick!

My god the have no bounds! They never think. Did they not think what this does to those soldiers morale? Could they not have possibly tried to give the dog to and Iraqi citizen; that could have even been good p.r. But just like civilian deaths, a dog means nothing to this crew! If it gets in our way, KILL IT!

Learn not to have feelings, that way it is ok to kill anything and everything. How many more soldier's souls will be destroyed by this madness? How many will wind up with the morals of someone like John Allen Mohammed?

Here Ms. Alfonso and I part ways. This was not just "a dog". This dog obviously filled a need in these soldiers' lives, a semblance of a loving home to come to after being out in a dangerous world. Whoever ordered that this dog be destroyed is responsible for their drop in morale and should be beaten.
