About Bev and Andy's BBV announcement Tuesday
Is there any way to make sure a rep from each democratic campaign is present?

What about Krugman, Conason, Carville?

IT MUST be heard and talked about beyond Seattle.

So many of these are local news and then are 'disappeared.'

Is there anyone on network TV who could be lured to the story? ie are there any network journalists anywhere anymore?

1. It will be up to us here and on BBV
to push this story once it breaks. That is what we have had to do from the very beginning with BBV. So sharpen your finger and get ready to write those letters to reporters and editors.

4. knowing Bev...

i suspect that press release went far and wide.

with krugman on the story (among many others) if they do have a significant new break, it will be covered.

(and based on my "I can't tell you a thing but...." calls with Andy, I feel pretty sure this will be of mainstream interest. mainstream.

one of the keys right now is: will the utter lack of new SADDAM CAPTURED news allow this to penetrate?

i'm worried that the whore media is NOT ready to drop the ALL SADDAM, ALL THE TIME any time soon. (can you watch that oral exam one more time???)

i digress. i hope this goes well.

BBV has been a campaign of accrual, not bombshells.

a headline won't convey it.

it must be brought into focus, and then zoomed away from.

i will be waiting for the report!

11. I don't consider Kucinich credible among enough Dems to get him elected
As much as the far left minority on the Democratic part wants to have control it just is not going to happen. We have to live in the real world and if we expect to regain control of the American people we are going to have to do it without pushing mainstream Dems out because of unelectable far left ideals.

Having control of the House majority is all about control over the people. The people elect the House moreso than the Senate or Executive branch. Is that more clear now?

First of all control is not exclusive to Democrats. Do you really think the goal of getting a majority in the branches of the US government is not about control? How on earth do you expect to furthur the Democratic agenda without having control? In case you didn't notice we are not having much luck passing our agenda while in the minority.

Why bother getting elected if not to have contol of the agenda? Seriously.

You have GOT to be kidding! Verifiable elections are NOT a "far left ideal". :eyes:
There are almost as many people on the right worried about the problems with using DRE's for voting as there are on the left. You don't have a clue what the announcement is an yet you can say "too much tinfoil"?
Kucinich may not be my first choice for President but he's certainly "credible" enough to run for the office!

Plain and simple. If it wasn't an issue than lawmakers wouldn't be moving to introduce new legislation to require a voter verifiable paper ballot by 2004's election. Secretaries of State would not be issuing orders that required VVPB..

Yup, not important at all.

You make a huge assupmtion there. Why was it Gore couldn't attract enough voters to have a real edge over Bush in 2000? Don't even lay that on the Greens either. The conservative corner of the Dem party and leadership stopped representing traditional Dem values... that's my theory and I'm sticking to it.

If it weren't for the far left of this party, the conservatives and moderates wouldn't have the first clue about this kinda stuff let alone what to do about it.

Edited on Mon Dec-15-03 10:25 PM by Eric J in MN
Senator Edwards and Senator Kerry spoke out against black box voting at the Florida convention.

Senator Bob Graham introduced a bill against black box voting (S1980, the Voter Confidence Act).

The NY Times and LA Times have printed editorials (not just op-eds, but editorials) against black box voting.

People want a voter-verifiable paper trail.

48. IF the documentation to be distributed at the event
is something that is best distributed in paper form (online pdf's wouldn't work as well for whatever reasons), and is needed in large numbers (several hundred plus), and is also likely to be useful as an independent stand-alone piece (or maybe as a supplement packaged up with the book)....

THEN it might be worth the time and costs to reformat the 20 page dossier that is put together for the press conference into 8-16 page pamphlet form (5.5" X 8.5" or 6" X 9").

Since I am clueless in Seattle, I have no opinion on that, but if so we would need people to do the revised layout and figure out how to cover the costs and handle distribution.

Anyway, something to consider apart from the perpetual question of how to distinguish the impercepient and the impedient visitor.

Because I have several media outlets who can't get there but want the documents.

I was unable to do my typical media blast, because my press blast software seems to have a little problem. One of the software executables has disappeared from my computer altogether (???) and the other will not connect to transmit. Does anyone know how I find out what port is being used for my smtp (outgoing) email?

If I can snag the talents of David Allen, I think we should put the documentation on BlackBoxVoting immediately after the press conference.

Reminder: This is a big announcement, in my opinion, but this has never been a one-punch contest. As nostamj says, it is incremental. Just think of it as scrubbing away the creeping crud that managed to accumulate on our voting system.

Scrub-a-dub.

Bev

56. smpt is via port 25
usually, according to:
http://www.keypoint.com.au/knowledge.html?strid=1095

A port monitor like this would what show activity occurs when attempting to send mail or other net activity:
http://www.sysinternals.com/ntw2k/freeware/portmon.shtml

Reinstalling the software (maybe rename the original folder to OriginalName-0 beforehand to preserve whatever customization info is in there (unfortunately preferences and settings necessary to get the program functioning might reside elsewhere and still get overwritten unless you have made a full system back-up first) and then copy the contents of OriginalName-0 back into the new OriginalName folder). Better to ask for tech support from the program authors, especially if you have a distinctive error message.

(I thought the documents would be as you describe, and pdf would be the best media, but wasn't sure. Supplements to the book contents like these docs or other new info would be a good section to add to blackboxvoting.com.)

And the main thing I wanted to say: I thought there were two stories, but wrote up my notes tonight and there are actually four.

You see, I've been counting like a Republican voting maching in an African-American precinct.

Okay, of these four stories, Andy Stephenson scooped 3.5 of them. He'll call me up after talking with sources and making telephone calls and say "hey, I've got this, is that good?"

Yessir. Then I put my analytical hat on and we start digging documents. He's good at that, too.

Back to my voting machine math: The sum of 2 people (Stephenson/Harris) is about 4. Really good synergy. He does stuff I could never do, like walk up to Tab Iredale's front door and start talking, while checking out the pricey inlaid hardwood floors, big screen TV and Bison Frise dog -- then not five minutes later, schmoozes up a realtor who is familiar with the area who estimates Iredale's home at $1.2 million.

I'm more of a shy person, myself.

Bev

(psst. Andy: Not a hint on the little schmooze coup.
Don't you know what I mean.)

If I can save the life of even one other programmer then I'll feel as if I've done some small amount of good.

I fail to understand how these types of intimidation tactics serve to further the cause of democracy. Having a problem with a company's practices is one thing; showing up at various employees' homes to harass their families sounds a little sick to me.

Yes, stalking. That's what it's called. Seriously. Unless you were delivering a complimentary tray of Subway (tm) sandwiches I can't possibly fathom what you would hope to accomplish by showing up at the man's house and harrassing his family.

Equivocating and selective memory issues aside, I think the whole stalker lifestyle is probably a bad one for an aspiring secretary of state.

I can't believe you don't think that showing up at Tab Iredale's house is an exercise in intimidation. You know full well that if Tab Iredale or Sophia whatever-her-name-was or that Ken guy showed up in Renton one afternoon to "pay a friendly visit" to Bev that there'd be a huge uproar here on DU. Bev's alluded many times to how she fears for her life, after all. The shameless hypocrisy blows me away.

No one knows if related to Whit but probably not related to Jerry.

All I know about the Lee cartel is what you people tell us. Seriously.

That Lee thing does sound pretty big though. Maybe if Sophia, Whitman, Jerry and Chuck have 700 other relatives you could visit them all, have some dessert and collect all of their signatures for your campaign... that ought to be almost enough. ;)

99. to recap
Let me get this straight. Just one week ago you didn't have enough signatures in your campaign for secretary of state. You then went and spent some time outside the country, eating fancy italian desserts at the home of a high-up exec from Diebold -- the company that supplies half the voting equipment in your state. Upon your return, you 'suddenly' find that you do in fact now have enough signatures after all. Interesting... and very troublesome, somehow.

If I distrusted Diebold, I'd be very suspicious about the sudden turn-around in your campaign. I think this bears some further investigation.

106. Ignoring all the side trips...
... if just one Seattle tv station is there, it's possible to get a copy of the videotape from them. If none of the stations are interested, there should be someone there with a camcorder--get a copy from them. Turn it over to the nearest indymedia, and they can have the salient bits converted to .mpg in a relatively short space of time, which can be distributed to politicians and other interested parties by CD, or via the web.

That said, the documentation will likely be of greater interest, and that should be readily available in .pdf.

Go get `em!

Cheers.

Get more personal interaction on public transportation.

Maybe you can even get a few to come to the press conference.

Now, how likely is it that Boeing, who has probably known about where the new plane is going to be built, just happened to announce, today, that their press conference will be in Seattle at 2pm also?

I mean, did it have to be 2pm?

And I guess Sam Reed, Washington SOS, speaks on electronic voting the same day? (but earlier)

Good gravy.....
