An Iraqi tells why the opposition will grow!
This appeared today in the Guardian. It's no suprise that the US media won't publicize this aspect of the problem, now that Bremer has Saddam in captivity. The fact is that there is no way they'll let Saddam openly tell about the US role in his past. The US media makes it seem as if this is the end of the major problem. Hah! Check out the other side of the coin:

1. This is the truth the rest of the World gets...
Glad for the computer! Thank you!

"One demand is now uniting nearly all Iraqis, from armed resisters to trade unionists to Grand Ayatollah Ali Sistani. Elections! And it is the one demand to which the US has refused to agree, because it has accurately assessed the likely result. That is also why it swiftly moved to stop elections of city mayors and why, a few weeks ago, it sacked the elected dean of Baghdad university after his outspoken criticisms of the occupation authorities."

3. what else I see...
Bush immediately branded Saddam a liar after the capture. Nothing he says is trustworthy. How very clever!! If a public trial is held, - and Saddam has his day in the sun...to expose the Reagan and Papa Bush deals....- he'll have been discredited by the Bush administration and the lapdog media. They have this thing all figured out.

6. Thank god
Ive been running around for 2 days trying to explain to everyone that the Saddam capture will not decrease the conflict in Iraq, but it is absolutely stunning how many people have been brainwashed into thinking that the only Iraqi's hostile to us were working for Saddam or terrorists from foriegn countries. The other amazing thing was how simple people seem to think Iraqis are. "We caught saddam so they will love us" etc.

Now that the Iraqi's dont need to fear Saddam returning, the main reason they would want US troops around is now gone. I think the opposition will only grow worse, and now the US cant blame it on saddam.

15. Well, weve been contributing to Chaos in Iraq
for longer than I've been alive. The soldiers arent there to make Iraq a better place. They are there to control the country until we have setup an infastructure so that a government we approve of can control the country.

32. But which time?
In 1979, when we controlled chaos by helping Saddam to power?

Or was it in the 80s, when we controlled chaos by selling him that gas you're so sad about?

Or was it in 1991, when we controlled chaos by bombing their infrastructure and killing a 100K or so (I count soldiers as people)?

Help me out here. When was the before? When did we control chaos?

37. How about when we backed the coup
that put the Ba'ath party in power to begin with? They were an insignificant minority party, but the one that was anti-Soviet and pro-US oil interests. On top of that, they had a loose cannon named Saddam, who had been in exile after a failed assasination attempt and would make an excellent enforcer for US interests in the region.

It galls me that so few people know the history of the region, the arbitrary land divvying after the wars by western powers and the king-making that has created the instability that has kept us in middle-eastern oil. It seems that precious few Americans want to accept that we have been playing these countries and their people for generations because then we might have to look at how the machine has changed our nation too.

I think the best treatise I have ever read on the real purpose, agenda and methods of our foreign policy is "War is a Racket" by Gen. Smedley Butler. Those who don't know of him are missing a colorful and interesting chapter of our history. He is the man pro-fascism moneyed families selected to take over the US government from FDR by coup in the early 30s. Fortunately, they chose poorly and with absolutely no foresight as he was stridently anti-fascist (in fact FDR had previously saved his career when he lobbed an insult at Mussolini) Here is a link to this essay, for those who are interested:
http://lexrex.com/enlightened/articles/warisaracket.htm

... and a great quote that I absolutley love...
"I helped make Mexico, especially Tampico, safe for American oil interests in 1914. I helped make Haiti and Cuba a decent place for the National City Bank boys to collect revenues in. I helped in the raping of half a dozen Central American republics for the benefits of Wall Street. The record of racketeering is long. I helped purify Nicaragua for the international banking house of Brown Brothers in 1909-1912 (hey, that's a familiar name isn't it?). I brought light to the Dominican Republic for American sugar interests in 1916. In China I helped to see to it that Standard Oil went its way unmolested.

During those years, I had, as the boys in the back room would say, a swell racket. Looking back on it, I feel that I could have given Al Capone a few hints. The best he could do was to operate his racket in three districts. I operated on three continents."

If I were there, I think I would have to kiss this man right on the mouth!

16. The part where we allow rogue countries to ferment terrorism
The days of allowing a country to train and grow terrorists are over. The modern tools of destruction are too powerful to allow those that would use them against innocents to continue their plans of death to many.

You seem to be terribly misinformed about the history of this conflict. Might I suggest you read up on that before posting here again. In case you werent paying attention, Iraq has no great tools of destruction, nor were they training and growing terrorists.

I'll post this again for the faint hearted and clueless who have no idea that this country is being RUN by PNAC...and that all we see has been planned and implemented by PNAC. Uh....you know about PNAC, don't you?
Get a quick education....and see the faces and the positions they hold in the Bush (Mortimer Snerd) administration.

Here's the Rogue's Gallery (Speaking of Rogue States)...of neo Con Artists in the administration right now:

There are some people telling the other side of the story. I certainly wasn't referring to the bloodbath, I was referring to the fact that the Guardian is reporting what I think is going to be the actual effect of Saddam's capture and where things are going to go from here.

The Free Republic would act if another country came in here and occupied the US.

This is what we are now begining to see. National Pride Iraqi style.
The whole world is waking up to the bull coming out of the BFEE. They prohibited elections in Iraq, the very essence of the democracy we have here. In fact they our making a mockery of our democracy by doing this in the name of Americans

Right in the Wallet

I have spoken with too many very successfull Asian businessmen that all say the same thing "No one is going to do business with a hostile country"

This whole affair has made a mockery of democracy and labled the US as a Hostle country

Maybe the outsourcing of IT jobs to Asia is really a way for global companies to hedge their bets

35. Only what the people WANT to see as being the truth is accepted as truth
We're already a dead people, if that's the case. A nation of dead souls. That's what we are when we blindly accept the media, all of which reports the exact same news items with little differentiation - except for FOX which is merely the same thing in a more spiteful and hateful tone.

There is no freedom of speech anymore.

38. Your headline implies enthusiasm for the insurgents
And is just the kind of thing Limbaugh would sieze to read on the air and say "see! They're rooting for the enemy!"

You and I know that these people do not like being invaded by a foreign power, and want an Iraqi Iraq ( I don't think "freedom" is a major concern for them), but such statements are so easily misconstrued...
