My challenge to the Young Conservatives of Texas: ENLIST!

I want you all to read this thread in the message board for the Young Conservatives of Texas (a student group with chapters all over the state). In it, I ask very politely why their members have not put their money where their mouth is and enlist in the armed forces, seeing as how they are the loudest cheerleaders for military action in Afghanistan, Iraq and God knows where else. The replies I received were mostly obnoxious, and a few themes seemed to emerge, 1) I didn't serve, but someone in my family or some friend of mine fought in some war (DON'T QUESTION MY PATRIOTISM!), 2) We're enlisting after we graduate. Really. We are. 3) We're fighting the war too by sitting at home waving flags and keeping those liberals in line and 4) Soldiering is just not for us.

Sounds alot like the "I had other priorities", excuse.
Way back when I was in, we used to say "next time, I'm going to stay behind and protect the women and children" usually accompanied by some rude sounds or gestures, but what the hell, we were kids, most of us younger than these. We need to scream very loud, if there is a draft, that there be NO deferments due to college or parental connections. Then let them sweat it out with the rest.

9. My message to the YCTs (and lurking Freepers)

When you enlist, make sure its either the Army or Marine Corps. Also, when you enlist, be sure to ask for special MOS 11B if you're going into the Army or 0311 if you're headed to the Marines. This will ensure that you get to where the action is. Don't be like Tom Delay and let some minority get in line ahead of you and take your place.

I'm proud to know that there is still some hope (albeit slim) for the academe when I read posts such as yours. Little do the fools realize that they are the embodiment of postmodernism themselves.
