Tonight ABC 8(?)PM------- Bush BLOWS UP on Diane Sawyer
I just watch the preview on ABC WNT.

"I had the same intelligence as my predecessor (smirk)"

On the briefings every morning of lives lost in Iraq
"I...and...(okay the rest of this is a loose quote but he actually started with that)....I've seen the grief first hand...I pray for their survivors....(Sawyer finishes his sentence)

Sawyer starts asking him about WMD and links to terrorism
W pops up in his chair "LOOK the world is a better place with out him!!!....(smirk)

I can't remember exactly his response but he really snapped at her.

Watch for yourself.

He can't hide it. I hope a lot of people watch it and realize what a pissant little dictator-type he is.

In that case it was a calculated move.

Did it look real?

Poppy had a scrap or two of manners, if not ethics, but he was a marshmallow, a supreme dick and not particularly smart either.

Junior is just a narcissistic and deeply bitter nobody in constant fear of exposure.

And I address this to Reagan and Rummy and everyone else who was so chummy with Saddam when he played their game. Now they're making a big deal of the world being a better place.

But I digress. Yes, bush is extremely thin-skinned, and that's the way to get at him. He does not like to be questioned as to his motives, and he knows he lied, and now everyone knows that he knew he was lying. I say, make the worm squirm.

Edited for clarity.

His sense of entitlement is his achilles heel. Rove keeps it pretty well hidden, but it's definately there. And if the American people really knew how Bush saw them, well, we could run a parking meter and win.

64. Sorry, can not resist
In the game of chess or planning a corporate move, you need more than that.

Twenty moves for each twenty steps ahead. That results in four hundred moves planned. Of course, there is always the unexpected do to lack of information resulting in poor planning. Like knowing the game, Mr. Bush Jr. knows how to campaign, but planning policy, Bush and Company are the most destructive group of people in the past two hundred years this country has known. It is easy to plan to destroy an idea, an object or a country. It is hard to plan something constructive and have it last.

Like I have said before, I feel sorry for the next administration coming in after Bush Jr.

20. That was a guilty man making those statements.
A man who is hiding a lot from himself and the American people. He wants us to believe that this war was fought for WMD, "Saddam was evil", democracy, oil...you name, that's what it was all about.....NOT.

It was all about deflecting and distracting us from the investigation of the events of 9/11/01. He is guility of gross negligence, complicity, or active orchestration...take your pick. But whatever it is, it ended with the deaths of 2500 Americans.

He failed his duty on 9/11/01. He's chosen to start a war that forces America and the world to divert their eyes and minds from finding the truth about 9/11/01.

34. He sure has seemed very nervous the last couple of days?
Odd considering he just had a supposed major victory handed to him with the capture of Saddam. You would think W would be the happiest guy in the world right now? I get the feeling that W & Co are not real happy about Saddam being taken alive. Someone in Iraq screwed up or screwed Bu$hCo and they are freaking out. I get the feeling that W is gonna blow and melt down into a puddle of toxic waste at any moment. I hope whoever has the football doesn't let him anywhere near it. He will surely push the button if he thought it would get his ass out of trouble.

29. As Krauthammer would say: definite signs of mental breakdown
Several DUers noted during Bu**sh**'s last press conference that Doofus POTUS is getting exceeding touchy and paranoid, reminding many of the last days of Nixon and Johnson as the hellish demons of their own secretive world began to close in around them. Similar reactions were observed in response to Dean's LIHOP insinuation. It's only a matter of time before the "miserable failure" breaks down completely.

37. This interview really isn't bad.
To my shock, Diane is actually asking many of our own questions in her interview. It's the first time I've seen a reporter receive so much time to directly pose the questions we've all been asking.

She's not too good with the follow-up, but she just showed "Bring 'em on" again (Chimpers was nervous, rambled, changed the subject back to Pickles), and also went into detail with him about that "I don't read newspapers" comment (he gets his news directly, without "editorializing").

I know there are people out there who actually enjoy his folksy-tough-talk crap, but watching this interview, I'm positive there will be many voters turned off by his manner and temper. They're also likely to be turned off after being reminded of issues they may have forgotten about, like "WMDs" and "Bring 'em on."

I'm very, very surprised that this hasn't turned into a one-hour wargasm fest from Diane, as I had suspected it would.

If he had the same intel as Clinton, why did both Colin Powell & Condi Rice go around in mid 2001 *bragging* that the sanctions had neutered Saddam of not just his WMD, but his conventional capabilities of attacking even his neighbors?

Or, do you mean the intelligence that said Osama was an imminent threat and planning attacks against the US that was ignored by the Bush Administration? (the Hart-Rudman Report)

57. sorry to be so chatty :-)
i'm going to >>grudgingly<< give props to the chimp for saying that tolerance and sanctity of marriage aren't mutually exclusive. while i personally don't see a line to draw between gay and straight marriage, and i think the argument is ridiculous and SHOULD be a non-issue, it's nice to know that somebody f**d up in the rhetoric office. didn't that piss off some of those right-wing xtians?? i think it did...

and i'm glad.

ok ok !! now i'll hush!!! sorry :D :D

60. Welcome, Petrock2004!
Never apologize for being "chatty..." Afterall, that's sort of the point, here right? Oh, and yes, I do have to give him some credit for finesseing that issue (from his perspective audience, not ours)-- Gotta keep that RW base happy...

58. I'd rather watch people eat raindeer gonads for prizes...
Sadly enough, America has become so soulless and depraved, they've done that too on television... "Fear Factor", anyone?

I swear, America seems more like Varos every day...

you're absolutely right. he can brook NO questioning of his magnificence. it was amazingly revelatory of his arrogant ignorance.

wait a minute......I'll find it.

failing that, I have it on tape, and will type it up again. it's worth seeing every word.

61. What I finally realized from watching this is that neither they or their
supporters care a rat's ass about WMD or anything else this cabal used as reasons for going to war.

The end justifies the means, so lying or whatever is okay as long as it's for a JUST and GOOD cause.

Forget the WMDs and every thing else they used for going to war folks you are wasting your breath. We need a better strategy.

All these folks see is he delivered Saddam and is punishing the brown evil doers, so it is all good!

As long as he/they keep up a nice facade then they can do what they want behind doors because to the average joe, it just doesn't register.

Well, this was an eye opener for me because I couldn't understand why they couldn't see he lied and feel used...it doesn't matter to them.

So, now we gotta look at their pocket books and jobs that is where it will hurt. Most people have no clue about what government does unless it hits their families or their wallets, sad to say :(

65. wish I didn't agree, but you're completely on target
and the media are doing their job, relentlessly.

THEY are the ones to blame for the mess we're in.

If they'd done to this piece of dreg, a TENTH of what they did to Clinton, from BEFORE day 1, he'd have been imPEACHed by now.

66. underpants, here's what was said, almost exactly, from tape
she quotes several instances of NO DOUBT about WMDs:

DS: VP Cheney said "There is no DOUBT Saddam has weapons of mass destruction, not programs, not intent; there is no doubt he HAS (emphasis hers) weapons of mass destruction. Secretary Powell said a hundred to five hundred tons of chemical weapons, and now the inspectors say that there is no evidence of THESE weapons existing right now."

get this HORRID, cheezy, disingenous answer (how COULD he have had this in advance......the response is SO lame, I LOLed as he said it)

flapping his chicken wings as he says this, BTW, looking all over the place, clearly flustered, aggravated by the question

GWB: "Look--there's no DOUBT that SH was a dangerous person; there's no DOUBT we had a body of evidence proving that, and there's no doubt that the president must act after 911 to make America a more secure country."

and you should have seen the smirks, shrugs, headbobs as he said that.......especially the self-satisfied one he ended this little spiel with....sort of like a "So THERE! How do you like me NOW?" look.

gotta give Sawyer credit for that question, much as I really loathe her; she clearly got under his very very thin skin with that one

70. I would have given a million dollars for Sawyer to say...
after * said "Look--there's no DOUBT that SH was a dangerous person..."

"Mr President, you keep mentioning Saddam and 9/11 in the same sentence, yet your administration has denied that Saddam had anything to do with 9/11. Why do you insist on combining the two?"

Ahh..if wishes were horses, beggars would ride.

68. The Fluff Interview
What an interview:

1) Some parts he was actully telling the truth: how long the troops were going to be there, Bush did not know, and was the world a safer place, Bush said there are people who did not want peace.
2) Some parts he was lying: weapons of mass destruction (given), and the world being a safer place (didn’t I say that some place else, I need to look).

In an interview of this nature, all of the questions are given in advance. This gives the person being interviewed a chance to do research (hence: their homework and fact checking) so they are comfortable with the production. This happens all the time with going on camera with knowing at least the subject of the discussion.

3) The discussion was mostly about Iraq and Saddam without any hard facts. Not once did Bush quote a timetable, a quantity of people or objects, nothing about knowing facts of the situation of Iraq. The only number he throw out there was 160,000 Iraqi policeman and troops. What he did not mention was a number Iraqi policeman and troops were quitting their jobs.
4) The other thing that seemed weird was the length of conversation about Bush praying to God and what his prayers contained. This is a sore subject with some people of faith when it was reported that God called Bush to office. Bush made sure to state this was not the case, which he only prays to God for guidance and strength.
5) For the most part, Bush did express his feelings. His feeling about it was the right thing to go the war with Iraq. His feeling about meeting with some of the families of the fallen Soldiers. His feeling the world is a safer place without Saddam. His feeling when he was told about Saddam’s capture from Rumsfeld.
6) Bush did not talk about the domestic agenda. He did mention he may not be elected and may go back to Crawford, Texas. I guess there was some talk about his family, but I tuned out at that point.

This interview was one for show and not of substance. Some very hard questions need to be asked of this administration. Bush stated he was very sure of himself, well that needs to be put to the test. A debate with the opposition candidates may meet this objective. If there is a debate need to make sure everybody in the United States sees it for himself or herself, not hear about from the media.

72. Research? He doesn't read the papers "doesn't need to hear criticism"
I'm not disagreeing with you (great re-cap/analysis) so if they did have prior knowledge of the questions or subjects they either didn't do a good job prepping him or he really does need a monitor in the podium.

78. Mr Bush needs something
I consulted with the Wifey who was an editor or a magazine for this answer.

When a person is asked for an interview, some negotiations will take place first. The interviewer will have a subject or subjects for the questions and discussions they want to have with the person to be interviewed. The person being interviewed will have his or her own demands. Some of these are the topics to be discussed and not discussed, how the discussion will be recorded (i.e. paper and pencil, audio recorded, video recorded, live, memory and/or whatever), to be able to edit the interview to their standards and content, and also exact questions the person being interviewed will be asked. It is very rare for the person being interviewed to ask for the exact questions, but does happen, especially when the interview is complex. Generally, this arrangement is a gentleman’s agreement unless there is money is involved for which a contract will be written.

As for Mr. Bush being given the questions before the interview, I do not know for sure but have no doubt this was done. As for the time between the weekend’s events and the interview itself, we know there was very little time for adjusting the content of the interview. Perhaps that is what showed the most on Mr. Bush’s part.

I must state that I did not watch the whole interview; I dropped out when Mr. Bush started taking about the phone call from Rumsfeld.

74. "I had the same intelligence as my predecessor (smirk)"
I laugh at the notion that this is some sort of defense or explaination. Clinton did not kill hundreds of Americans nor thousands of Iraqis with the "same intelligence."

Doesn't this argument really support the notion that Bush is incapable of formulating sane foreign policy?

There was something else of substance I forgot.

Mr. Bush stated Dick Cheney was going to be his running mate in 2004. The rest of the cabinet was up for grabs
