Iraq's Judicial System Dysfunctional |
|
I'm watching a discussion of Saddam's upcoming trial on Channel 9 (KCTS). One individual says Iraq's judicial system is dysfunctional, though an Iraqi spokesman claimed good judges could be found. An American woman also said she has met many wonderful judges in Iraq.
The first speaker I mentioned doesn't necessarily sound like a Bush spokesman; he wants UN involvement.
But I suspect George Bush, Inc. would gladly exploit a corrupt or dysfunctional judicial system. I certainly can't imagine them allowing the United Nations to try Saddam.

I find it kind of offensive that the people would be so insulting by implying that Iraqis are incapable of justice. I mean that country has been around for 1000's of years with a rich tradition of law. In fact the first written code of laws was written there (Babylon). There was a code of laws before and during Saddam's reign. And I think that genocide, murder, and touture are pretty clear cut crimes. Well unless you were Saddam Hussein or one of his lackeys.
