All I have seen is a report quoting some colonel (?) saying one of his soldiers said this to Saddam. No one has interviewed the actual soldiers, and from what I understand it would be very unlikely that the colonel himself was there to witness what was said. Have I missed something?

1. That was on TV in Aus last night

I can't remember the ranks of the blokes involved, but one was describing what happened to journalists (or at least some people doing a reasonable impression of journalists) and he called over someone else and asked what was said. The text was something like...

SH: I am Saddam Hussein, President of Iraq, I want to negotiate.
Army Bloke: President Bush sends his regards

So maybe the Colonel (?) wasn't there, but in the footage he did call over someone who allegedly was there to get the quotes. (I don't know who was there either, I was in Aus, and I have an alibi :-)
