Wesley Clark Word of the Day: Ameliorate
Edited on Wed Dec-17-03 12:17 AM by WillyBrandt
ameliorate \uh-MEEL-yuh-rayt\, verb:
1. transitive: to make better; to improve
2. intransitive: to grow better

As in:

"But even more importantly, I believe that if America works with its allies, it can engage in diplomacy, developmental assistance, and a full array of legal actions to deal with crises before they erupt into war, and to ameliorate the conditions that might lead to those crises in the first place."

http://clark04.com/speeches/020/

And as in:

"The discourse shall little ameliorate, so long as the Clark haters continue to peddle their spurious conspiracy theories."

but his actions speak louder than words"

From his ad. Impressive, if a little corny. :-)

14. When I get my Christmas Bonus, or...
The next time we see a particularly nasty thread, we can start donating in honor thereof. That will help ameliorate our feelings.

Incidentally, do you remember that real crackpot one that claimed Clark was the All Evil One or whatever because he had mentioned the Homestead act as a historical analogy in a speech?

That one just blew me away...
