Over 10, 000 American soldiers sick, injured, dead, or wounded
December 15th..

<snip>
Meanwhile, daily life continues to be a harsh existence in occupied Iraq for most people, including US soldiers. I learned today that over 10,000 US soldiers are either sick, injured, wounded or dead from this conflict. This number is growing daily.

1. Last month (at least a month ago)
The number stood at something like 9,900+ (and some change).

I'm sure it's over 10,000 by now.

One divison lost through attrition. Nine left (is that right)?

2. At the Post Office today
I saw a woman mailing 6 or 7 packages to an APO address. I felt sorry for her, she was twenty something and probably spending Christmas without her husband.

3. I saw a picture
of the troops attending a concert in Iraq -- so many, many very young men. It is so very sad. My son's fiancee's sister's husband is there. We worry everyday that he wont come home. He's already had one close call. Damn bush anyway.

4. Then you do not want to read this article...we are being told
the exact opposite of what is happening there except in security areas. The picture this Alaskan freelance journalist is painting isn't pretty at all!

Looks like only about 2500 or so wounded and of course about 500-600 deaths. Maybe the flu is hitting the troops?

7. be sure to read the article.
"In addition, the number of Iraqi children dying from malnutrition and disease has doubled since the invasion."

"Deaths among pregnant mothers have tripled."

"Unemployment is endemic and security remains so awful that children are kept at home from school due to fear of their being kidnapped."

"Women face the threat of kidnapping and rape daily."

8. What a mess!
Good job George! :argh: So glad he made the world a safer place by doing this. This doesn't read like the Iraqis are safer or better off, at all.
