Vice President Cheney warned this week that "the major threat" facing the nation is the possibility that terrorists could detonate a biological or nuclear weapon in a U.S. city.

Cheney told commentator Armstrong Williams that the war on terrorism is "going to go on for a long time" and that U.S. soil remains vulnerable to al Qaeda, the network behind the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks. The vice president said one of his biggest worries is "the possibility of that group of terrorists acquiring deadlier weapons to use against us -- a biological weapon of some kind, or even a nuclear weapon."

"To contemplate the possibility of them unleashing that kind of capability -- of that kind of weapon, if you will, in the midst of one of our cities -- that's a scary proposition," he said. "It's one of the most important problems we face today, because I think that is the major threat."

The security of chemical plants has been covered by Now with Bill Moyers on PBS and CBS 60 minutes but hardly anyone in government is talking about this. A small bomb is all that is needed to blow up a tank of chlorine or other toxic gas. These poorly guarded plants(security is non-existant in many of them) are in populated areas, so thousands of people would be killed or hurt if this happened. It would be a Bhopal caused by terrorism. After 9/11, congress tried to pass laws that would tighten up security at these plants, but the industry lobbied successfully against it.
So this is my fear- terrorists will hit the easiest and weakest targets in our country.

Here in Charleston WV we have been under chemical attack for 60 years! It starts again at dark every evening! Less than ten miles from where I'm setting is a plant now owned and operated by Bayer Crop Science a German firm! That plant did belong to(non)Union Carbide for decades until right after the Bophal disaster! It is in fact the "Sister Plant" to the plant in Bophal India! The plant has TONS of 'MIC'(Methyl Isocyanate)which is the exact same chemical released in Bophal that killed THOUSANDS! Carbide Gassed and killed more people than Saddam did in fact!

MIC is used in the production of the pesticide 'SEVIN®' which is still being made here in town by 'BAYER Crop Science'! Bayer BTW is a part of what was once IG Farben(Gesellschaft Farbenindustrie AG), the very same company that once made the Zyclon B "Gift Gas" that the SS used to kill the jews in Europe! IG Farben BTW, was partly owned by Brown Brothers Harriman bank Run by Presscot Bush!(google Trading With The Enemy) BAYER is the company that Bush bought all the 'Cipro' from during the anthrax scare after 9/11!

The Bush Administration paid over a dollar each for the Cipro tablets when we could have bought meds in the US far cheaper, which would have worked as well as the Cipro! Bayer was forced to settle with survivors of the Nazi death camps, just in the last few years! I'm guessing that Bushco was helping Bayer make up for the LARGE cash settlement paid to the families of the Nazi's victims!

Anyway, back to the damage that could be done here! Massive numbers of Deaths would be the result of very little effort, on the part of someone who was inclined to crash a crop duster into any of a half dozen plants in this area! A boat loaded with explosives could take out an small island here, on which is stored some of the most deadly chemicals you can imagine!

During the COLD WAR this area was known to be targeted by the USSR's ICBMs! The Reds knew what a double whammy they could cause by getting even close to these plants here! If the people in the Middle East could buy weapons from the USSR, it stands to reason that they could also buy Russian Intel on the American targets!

People in our government who would just cry wolf every time the political landscape is dreary, simply to divert our attention would have to be beyond insane! The people here are scared shitless by Cheney and Bushco's warnings! People were already scared just from the chemicals accidentally released here by these chemical companies over the years! Hell I've had my duct tape on hand for years and have had to shelter in place several times LONG before 9/11!

This SHIT is anything but funny, but the administration chose not to spend the money on HOMELAND SECURITY! The repubs used it to buy votes for Bushco in the up coming 04 election campaign, in the form of Bush's tax cuts! The money Bush wasted in Iraq because of special interests could have done great things here, but NOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

The Democrats in the Senate talked themselves blue in the face about this disaster waiting to happen in America, but the Republicans shouted them down! Robert Byrd knew the danger here and repeatedly warned the country, but they said he just wanted some PORK! If a disaster like Cheney warns about ever does happen here, the blame can be laid squarely at the White House Doorstep, because of corporate greed and a reelection bid for a man who is trying to buy another term no matter what it costs! Even greed can be trumped by a lust for power and it has in this very case!
