1. Hehe, Drudge seems to really have a hard-on for O'really
Edited on Wed Dec-17-03 05:11 PM by tritsofme
I wonder if this has something to do with O'really saying that DNC "operatives" were buying Hillary's book en masse, while his book was bought by "everyday people"

15. Unfair to say O'Reilly's book not doing well among nonfiction titles
In fact, it's downright unfair to call O'Reilly's book nonfiction at all.

2. Yes, who-oo!
http://www.drudgereport.com/mattbc.htm

NIELSEN's BOOKSCAN placed O'Reilly at #6 for the year on the nonfiction charts, trailing rival Al Franken by nearly 30%!

6. I saw O'reilly on Fox already giving excuses why Hillary's book
probably will out sell his book as best non-fiction book of the yr. He said it's b/c Costco doesn't report to NY Bestseller list??? And a recent check of sales shows he sold like 60k of books at Costco and Hillary's only sold like 8k. I guess they anounnce the best selling non-fic book of the yr soon and he needs to lay the groundwork to his fans as to why his wasn't #1. Nobody on Faux even asked him why doesn't Costco report to NY Bestseller list or if that's even true. Why wouldn't they??

8. On Hillarys book sales
This tells me that there is a monumentally HUGE silent majority out there. It also debunks the myth that Liberal doesnt sell.

9. I wondered why O'Really didn't have the bulk-sales dagger
The NY Times bestseller list always puts that little dagger next to the listing to show that bookstores have received requests for sales in bulk quantities (i.e. they're all bought up by Richard Mellon Scaife or some other Repub fatcat to make it seem like anyone really reads Ann Coulter or Bernie Goldberg). Even Zell Miller's book had the dagger. Surprisingly though, there's none beside O'Really's. Maybe they're used as coffee table coasters by his fans trying to pretend they can read.

25. According to USA Today, Moore HAS sold more than O'Really
http://www.usatoday.com/life/books/news/2003-12-17-top-100-books_x.htm

60. Dude, Where's My Country?/Michael Moore. Takes on corporate barons, homeland security, Dems and GOP (NF)

63. Who's Looking Out for You?/Bill O'Reilly. Conservative commentator "kicks butt and takes (and also names) names." (NF)

Also, a book made into a movie starring certain liberals O'Really hates also beats him:

48. Mystic River/Dennis Lehane. Suspicion, betrayal, revenge; movie. (F)

11. A shocker in the Dallas area.
I was at a Barnes and Noble recently and was pleasantly surprised (if not downright shocked) to see Michael Moore and Al Franken's books prominently displayed, while O'Reilly's book was on the lowest shelf.

18. Did you guys see this:
"There is no other cure than to kill Matt Drudge," O'Reilly charged on the IMUS in the MORNING radio show.

"I just want to tell everybody that Matt Drudge is smoking crack - right now, in South Miami Beach on Washington Avenue... And the authorities should know it."

19. To be fair, Franken's book has been out longer
So it may well be that at times O'Really's book has outsold franken's, even though the year-end numbers favor Franken & Hillary.

Sad, though, that an ex-gossip reporter-turned-GOP-flack's book is even in the running with the book of an accomplished lawyer who has been first lady of Arkansas & the US, as well as a US senator, all while supporting many worthy causes.

Don't you get the feeling that O'Really has like NO friends?

21. Might Want To Check The Numbers On That
First, i think the time line was only a couple weeks, because of the rushed release after the Fox lawsuit failed. The publishers jumped quickly to get the momentum from the free publicity.

Secondly, Willie's book never hit #1, and those numbers are weekly sales figures. Al's book did hit #1 on a week to week basis.

So, i think it might be inaccurate to suggest that his book outsold Franken's, otherwise the week to week best seller lists would not have had Franken's book consistenly above his. Maybe a week here or a week there, but never by dominating figures. (Say #2 and #4, for instance.)

But, as i recall, it was never rated higher by NYT than the Franken, Moore, or Clinton books.

Quote from O'reilly:

"I mean you can't believe a word Matt Drudge says," O'Reilly told the cameras. "Now you've got the Matt Drudges of the world and these other people, Michael Moore and all of these crazies, all right, no responsibility... that is a threat to democracy, I think." O'Reilly warned: "They'll just spin it and twist it and take it out of proportion every which way."

Uh...pot, kettle...have you guys met yet?

24. O'Reilly is one of those guys I expect to kill himself one day.
I know that's an ugly thing to say, but it's true. He's got this quality about him that's just sort of disturbing. It's an odd mix of paranoia, insecurity, and aggression. He comes off as a guy who hates the world.
