Excerpt of Holbrooke's desc. of Clark's retrieval of remains of comrades
Edited on Wed Dec-17-03 10:23 PM by Gloria
Here are pages 9 through 16 of Richard Holbrooke's book "To End a War". These pages describe the scene on Mount Igman when General Clark rapelled the mountain in order to retrieve the remains of two comrades in the APC that had gone over the side of the cliff.

1. I think he "rappelled" the mountain, not "repelled" it.
But thanks for the link and the good information.

2. This one issue alone compares to....
JFK's PT 109 Sinking and Rescue, and T.R.'s charge up San Juan Hill. It was absolutely an amazing thing for a four star general to do. Generals have not really led from the front in battle since WWII, and it explains Hugh Shelton and H. Norman Schwarzhoph's jealously towards Wes Clark.

3. As an added note, this is what can be expected however....
when you were number one in your class at West Point.
