Bush: New medical techniques mean no forced discharge from service
Edited on Thu Dec-18-03 12:29 PM by alg0912
In a live speech on CNN just now, Bush touted the recovery of a serviceman who lost both legs in Iraq - said new medical techniques (i.e. prosthetic arms, legs, etc...) will prevent the "forced discharge" of servicemen wounded in battle.

This means even amputees won't be allowed to discharge from the service. Just fit 'em with a prosthesis and send 'em back to the front lines. "Stop-loss," taken to the extreme...

Just when you think he's reached a new, dispicable low, he goes even lower. :grr: :grr: :grr: :grr: :grr: :grr:

1. I hate the pretender as much as anyone, but this isn't fair
Forced discharge means they MAKE you leave, it doesn't mean that this soldier won't be allowed to leave if they want to.

Let's not lose our higher moral ground by editorializing like Faux News.

3. Don't you understand what "stop loss" means?
Edited on Thu Dec-18-03 01:18 PM by alg0912
"Stop-loss" is when the military stops all discharges (that it reasonably can). This means that a soldier who has lost a limb could fall under the stop-loss rules.

Welcome to DU - you have much to learn, Grasshopper... :hi:

7. You have no basis for forming an opinion of what I understand
or what I don't understand.

I was simply trying to point out that that you over-spun that post.

Personally, I don't think we have to stoop to that level. You should be able to find some valid points on which the criticize the administration policies. There are PLENTY of them.

Thank you for the welcome.

9. No offense, but you didn't address "stop-loss"
Edited on Thu Dec-18-03 01:20 PM by alg0912
No stooping, no spin. "Stop-loss" means denying discharge to soldiersfor whatever reason the army sees fit. And if you don't believe this administration's army is capable of such a thing, you should read up on the story about how the army was going to try a soldier that developed a severe anxiety disorder (from battle) for cowardice...

I'm not sure why you're going to great lengths to defend Bush...

P.S. Sorry to infer what you do and do not understand - I changed my subject line in the previous post to relect this... :hi:

5. Do you also suppose it means no medical
disability if you do leave- what about if "not fit for world wide duty" I really don't think that statement he made is as good as it sounds.

They're into prosthetics now. War profiteering doesn't get any lower than this. :puke:

6. Nice wording
"Forced discharge" As if they don't want to leave! My dad was hit by shrapnel in Vietnam. He said that he saw all this blood, but he felt happy, because he thought he was going home. Nope. They kept him. It was awful for him. These guys don't want to say. This propaganda is making me so sick!!!

8. Actually he claims to have healed a man who could not walk but now
can walk again, Saint George the Healer. I know but listening to his speech he gave the impression that his visit had a direct affect on the man's recuperation......it's however you want to spin it, some fundies may see it as such.
