Poll question: Do you automatically assume everything from the Bush Admn. is a lie?

There seem to be two camps here. The first mostly believes the administration but dislikes them. The second camp thinks that if Bush said water is wet would question their own beliefs about that fact. The second camp (disclosure: I’m a second camper) can’t understand why every single claim made by the Bush’s shouldn’t be viewed as false unless solid proof is available to show otherwise. First campers don’t think the world is that complicated.

I AUTOMATICALLY assume everything that comes out of his mouth is a lie, it just that it has been proven time and time...ummm..and time and time again.

but there are some things that he does that is simply normal politics... responding to what the public overwhelmingly want... like the do-not-call list.

I think the man represents his private interests and political allies... not what's good for America. He's like most other politicians, only his propaganda campaign is better because Rove is an evil genius.

And it's not just the lies, it's the ulterior motives.

If Cheney said "water is wet", I'd suspect he was trying to get Halliburton a contract to make water drier.

If Rummy said "water is wet", I'd figure he was linking wetness of water to a need to invade another 3rd world country.

If bush said "water is wet", I'd bet he was trying to spout a lie about the dryness of water but got the words mixed up, and the whitehouse.gov website transcript would be altered to say "water is dry." Policies of the EPA would then be altered on the basis of water's newfound dryness. This would later be retracted by Scott McLellan, who would say, "well of course the president thinks water is wet! If you review the records, that's exactly what he said."

When the Bush administration first got in, I listened to him the same way I listen to all public speakers. I gave them the benefit of the doubt. As the months rolled by, I kept seeing more and more very obvious lies being used to sell bad legislation.

Now I listen to them very defensively. I assume everything they say is part of a sales pitch. They're selling war, they're selling corporate welfare, they're selling lots of things I don't like.

I treat them like used car salesmen. You have to always ask yourself, "why is this person telling me this"?

I don't understand the recent push to defend him and rehabilitate his liar image... I can see this on cable news, but on DU? Well, I take that back. I have been given answers when I ask, but not that are responsive to the question. Generally the answers have to do with men's body parts. I'd be delighted to hear a responsive answer as a matter of fact, if there is one.

Why would bush trouble himself with plans for war, when there's important fundraising to do?

Any plans for war would probably be mentioned in the morning staff meetings, but stay safely on the desks of those in the administration who care for such things as more than photo-ops.

First off, I said nothing about the mentally ill. I am mentally ill myself and therefore avoid such idiocy.

Now let's look at some apples and oranges:

APPLES: I think criticizing Bush and calling him a liar is, as they say, "all good." I personally don't trust Bush or anyone in his sham administration, and I voted (in this poll, and others) accordingly.

ORANGES: I also think attracting swing voters will be an important part of winning the general election.

Finally, I think APPLES are completely unrelated to ORANGES. I think APPLES can coexist with ORANGES. I don't have any problem with people criticizing the BFEE, distrusting the BFEE, etc. I do have a problem with writing off "swing voters" because I want to win this election. But that does NOT mean I trust or think others should trust the BFEE. Or that the Democrats should somehow "moderate" their message. Or that in order to attract swing voters, Democrats should "make nice" with Bush.

Gad on, gadfly. I think your fight is with someone else.

There is a big-ass window behind Bush's desk. You don't put classified war plans on desks with big-ass windows behind them.

Go over to the little room on the right, the one without any windows. There should be a big table in it. That's where the war plans were.
