Save Overtime Pay and Limit Fox's Media Power
For those who do not receive Act For Change email alerts, I posting this in hopes that you all will take action by clicking the below link.

Save Overtime Pay and Limit Fox's Media Power

It seems the holidays have come early this year for D.C. lobbyists and pork-barrel politicians. Rather than passing a variety of spending bills individually (as is the tradition), Congress instead rolled seven appropriations bills into a $820 billion bloated monstrous omnibus spending measure that offers stocking stuffers for almost everyone -- everyone, that is, except for American workers and television viewers who end up with nothing but coal.

Included in the spending bill are such bacon bits like $200,000 for
improvements to a privately financed petroleum museum in Midland,
Texas (President Bush's hometown), $2 million to help young people
play golf and $50 million for an indoor rain forest and aquarium in
Iowa.

However, despite support from a majority in both the House and the
Senate, the White House pressured negotiators to strip a provision
from the bill that would block the White House's attempt to deny
overtime pay to as many as 8 million Americans. In addition,
Republican leaders and the White House wrapped up a huge present for
media conglomerates by agreeing to increase the current 35% national
ownership cap for television conglomerates to 39% (not coincidentally, the level that Fox and Viacom are rapidly approaching!).

Urge your senators to keep fighting to defend the public interest by
blocking the omnibus spending bill, using a filibuster if necessary,
until the provisions to protect overtime pay and media diversity are
restored.

1. Done! I already sent so many faxes/e-mails over Media Dereg, it doesn't
hurt to do it one more time. I hope Edwards will vote "No" on this. I know Dole will vote yes. But, it doesn't hurt to keep on top of it. And, maybe going through the larger organizations like this one is better than individually contacting, since we are in the holiday season.

Block e-mails seemed to work all these years for the "Fundies" so it whould work for us.
