Some Refusing To Vote In NH Primary Over Gay Bishop

Some residents of Durham, New Hampshire say they will not vote in the Presidential primary as long as the polling station is located in a church that denounced the state's gay Episcopal bishop and allowed a protest by the Rev Fred Phelps.

Durham Evangelical Church was the location of a service protesting the elevation of Gene Robinson, the first openly gay bishop in the faith. The service, held the day of Robinson's consecration a short distance away at the University of New Hampshire. The church was also the scene that day of a vocal anti-gay demonstration by followers of Phelps, perhaps America's most infamous homophobe.

Durham officials say no other place in town is large enough and available on all voting days.

2. On the one hand...

I don't think churches should be polling places, period. There has to be a firehouse, or elementary school, or some municipal building that can serve the purpose.

On the other hand...

Why miss an opportunity to make THEM uncomfortable? Get gussied up as obnoxiously as possible. Make the homophobes squirm on the one day they have to let you in! LOL!
