It carries the FreeSpeechTv channel. And I have been writing to them asking them to pick up radioleft or something similar as one of their audio channels.

2. this snip says it all:
-snip-

The Justice Department said it would not oppose the deal.

The Republican-dominated FCC split along party lines, 3-2, to approve the deal. News Corp. also owns the Fox News Channel, headed by former GOP political operative Roger Ailes.

8. It's been a done deal for a while now... I know, I work there.
I work for Hughes Network Systems, not DirectTV specifically. We're focused mostly on satellite IP and telecom services-- and the leading provider for VSAT services that allow stores to keep all of their shelves stocked.

I'm not at all happy about this merger, but it was essentially finalized last weekend. There was a big ceremony where the "keys to the company" were handed over to some Fox TV exec.

Truthfully I'm thinking about doing Dish instead or does Murdoch already own it too? My neighbor has Dish and is quite pleased with it. I have to do satellite because I can't get antenna signals and our cable company sucks big time.

12. Not that likely
The attempt by Dish Network/Echostar to buy DirectTV was blocked. Putting the two companies under an even larger conglomerate would be even worse.... But then, it's the FCC we're talking about, so one can't exactly count on consistency

11. Dish is lousy in some ways,
I live in a small market area. We have 4 networks broadcast on UHF. dish has no pull, and was unable to get waivers so we could get the "LA" package which would also include a PBS, as they had promised . It is quite cheap, we pay by the year for the top 50, a mixed bag, but reserving some of the best for a bigger package-top 100. (many of these channels are music). So now to watch broadcast we must turn off Dish, and go on UHF. That involves having the TV wear a pair of rabbit ears . The remote is not friendly. lost of ads for PPV, but few blackouts , usually for seconds only. Good reception. Any questions
