RIP - dead and buried stories 2003
Edited on Sat Dec-20-03 12:58 PM by RBHam
http://tvnewslies.org/html/epitaph_to_the_tv_news_network.html
We come to bury 2003 – not to praise it. For this was the year of distraction, not news. It was the year of diversion, not information. It was the year in which TV “news” became a political tool to promote a war and protect the secrets of a furtive administration. It was a year which gave new meaning to the phrase, “No news is good news.” And it was the year whose passing we will not mourn.

The American news media was once the sentinel of the people, - fearlessly and relentlessly searching for truth. Until recently, - families turned on the evening TV news without apprehension. This was the way to learn about the events that affected their community, their nation and their world. Sometimes the news was good, sometimes it was bad, but for the most part it was accurate.

For a very long time, we believed most of what we heard on the news. It was the way to be informed about people and events that impacted our lives. Of course there were time fillers. Of course there was trivia. We knew that. But the details of a tragic murder or a sensational criminal trial were addendums to the news…not its focus. But all that has changed.

2. The Former Free Press
Used to be the News was like a Family member. A member we could somewhat trust to bring us the news in a fairly balanced way. A member we could have some faith in to tell us what was going on in the larger world.

Used to be we could count on the press to dig up the dirt and air the dirty laundry.

Now, sadly, our Family is torn apart from us by threats real and imagined, and threats designed to deceive and fracture our families.

Our family is now, in a word, dysfunctional. It's as if the formerly Free Press has now been drugged up and soaped down to where we can't believe much of what they are saying, or trust in what they do tell us is the whole story.

3. Welcome Smokie
Can tell already that you are a real assit to this forum.

You are right, the news can't be trusted...sad , but true.

Whatever happened to the reporters who really investigate.

They report on everything this administration tells them as if it is coming from the "chair of Peter."

Everytime I hear Dubya or others talk I say:" Prove it."

5. yep so many lies
Same feelings here - too many lies! Who do we believe? Can you believe any of them? :wtf:

As an 80 year old woman said to me, "Where are the Abbie Hoffmans?" "Where are those that resist?"

I have no answer because I feel so confused by all it it now myself.

6. I've got a 9-28-2001 story from the South Pole U.K. Rothera Research
Station where a state of the art biolab was destroyed by fire around time of anthrax attacks.
I don't know if this original link will work or not-worth a read if it's from the South Pole IMHO.

16. cutting heads
how about a short contest of best possible examples, most recent and memorable, of how the media lies and fucks us, every day? Locally I think the Arnold campaign is fairly instructive, but nationwide, what events can be used to not just argue, but convert, the confused spectator?
