Is orange alert because Saddam set terror acts to go if captured?
1. Are we on orange alert because Saddam had a plan in place for certain things to happen if he were captured?

2. Is Khadaffi cooperating now because he doesn't want to be responsible for any acts Saddam planned to unleash?

Thoughts?

9. ha! I was listening to a radio show tonight, and a caller said just that!
guest reporter was discussing the origins of this, and the first caller immediately, and VERY sarcastically, said almost your very words.

hosts and guests agreed, but thought that there probably really was something to this alert.

they went on to discuss how the admin has been very successful in conflating Saddam/Osama/911, but this latest alert certainly does hold the potential for 'irony,' considering the fact that they don't have Saddam 'Dick' Hussein to kick around anymore.

3. no, it's because we've removed the boogeyman
so we have to make a new, imaginary one to keep America scared.

5. incredulous as I am...........this may actually be justified by "chatter"
according to Frank James, Chicago Trib, who's been following this fairly closely, the talkabout has been the greatest since 911.

just heard this on the radio, on your favorite show, btw

check that other place for comments on unohoo's presentation tonight.

they may have reason to pump this up, but who in the world pays any attention, aside from municipalities, cities, states, etc., who have to pay out the ASS to hold up their end, for the extra protection.

James says the cost of Orange alert, nationwide is a fricking BILLION dollars a week.

right there, that makes me wonder if there's some sort of moneymaking scam behind it, though the effects are spread so widely that it's hard to conceive how any single/small numbered entity could profit.

but that's why they helped Saddam during the eighties....not so much for strategic purposes, but for the MONEY......see the IPS/SEEN report on what Rumsfeld was doing there in 83, at the behest of Schultz? a Pipeline. sound familiar? then, Bechtel signed a TWO BILLION dollar contract with SH in 1988 to build some kinds of plants there. money make the vorlt go arount.

8. more
since there has to be verifiable sigint, this chatter has to be there.

I'll bet they'd have liked this to appear somewhere down the road, actually, cause their star couldn't be shining much brighter at this point, and the orange alert seems like overkill, doesn't it?

nobody that I know, and I mean NObody, conservative/liberal alike, pays ANY attention to this crap, anyway......makes fun of it, ridicules the idea. what's one going to do, anyway? change your schedule for some ineffable, serendipitous event, that, even if it happens, you won't be able to do anything about anyway?

Rest assured that this will pop up sometime near the election, as their most potent emotional blackmail device IS the blanket of fear and ignorance with which they cover the benighted populace.

it's just about all they have, aside from the complicit media, which vomits forth, unquestioningly everything they say, only questioning the reality far after the fact, when it's too late to make a difference.

6. Is the Christmas season so bad...
...that this gives the Bushista Regime a built-in explanation for the poor economic numbers for the holidays?

Honestly, when was the last time you heard any report on the holiday shopping season? Suddenly the news isn't talking about it at all. It's gonna be bad. Now, with the traditional busiest days under threat of terra attacks (possibly at shopping malls, no less), this provides plenty of talking points with which the GOP minions can shout down dissenters.

The war is on, guys. The frontlines in America are the headlines. He who controls the message wins the WH in 04.

Hey, I'm just saying......

11. that's an excellent point!
I was amazed at the constant drumbeat for........shopping!!!!

right before and after TG the media were going ape over the fabulous economy, and how much $$$$$ was going to be spent.

then, a few days after, gushing reports on how Walmart had its biggest day ever, a 6 percent increase over last year, with more wonderful numbers to follow.

then.........silence.

what's the word spending since then?

I'll bet anything you're right about that; things have nosedived since then, yes?

where does one find out stats like that?

fits that theory, sorta, about there always being a cherchez le cake explanation for events, when all else fails.

10. humbug
from JM's thread:

I asked a close friend who works with DHS about the latest threat level change today. His comment was there is no imminent threat, nor has there been anything discernable on the horizon. His explanation was that based on nhow DHS is funded, the only way they can keep all the analysts working over the holiday is to elevate the threat level. If they didn't, everyone would be out of the office for at least two weeks.

Interesting, eh?

JM

12. so you're saying they're lying about the traffic, too?
not that I EVER believe ANYthing they say, even when I "believe" it.

but they'd have to be very brazen to lie about this.

because this chatter is recorded, therefore verifiable, and for them to be so blatant is hard to conceive, even for these liars, who lie all the time, even when they don't have to.

do you really think they're making this up, too?

just doesn't make sense, right now. they don't NEED to do it. everything's going their way, at this point. shouldn't they be saving it up for their next fiasco of insanely venal incompetence?

help me out here, pls

13. fascinating
I noticed over in freeperland several say that people who work in sensitive areas have been called in or put on alert or advised to carry their sidearm over the Christmas holiday -- before the alert level was raised.

21. My Radio Reporter
informed me this morning that the terror alert is not related to the Saddam capture, because, as the President has informed the American people, Saddam and al-Quaida are not related.

Wasn't it just yesterday that capturing Saddam was a milestone in the war on terror? It's all fun house mirrors.
