1. Ari was much slimier
McClellan is just an idiot with puppet strings.

3. I agree.
McClellan seems bumbling to me. People are less likely to challenge him because he seems simple-minded.

Ari was such a snot, he invited challenges.

4. Ari Fleischer was a better liar.
That's why Scott McClellan seems slimier...he's worse at lying. You'll notice chatter amongst the freeper set about how much they miss Fleischer, since McClellan makes the Administration look bad as he stammers, stutters and fumbles through the lies he's supposed to tell.

I think that the constant lying was taking its toll on Ari, which is probably why he decided to leave. I'm glad he's gone, though, because McClellan's falsehoods are much more transparent and obvious.

6. I don't think the lying took a toll on Ari at all.
I say that because he was still lying even when he didn't have to. He was on David Letterman a day or two before he stepped down as press secretary and he was trying to resurrect that lie about the Internation Atomic Energy Agency issuing a report saying that Iraq was six months away from developing a nuclear weapon. The IAEA debunked this numerous times months before Ari said it on Letterman. He didn't let that stop him though.

5. I don't think so
I feel sorry for McClellan because he looks like deer in headlights much of the time. He's definately not much of a smoozer, which is surprising to me considering the make-up Bush Administration. It's like they wanted to put an "average guy" in their PR role, perhaps to counteract the sinister nature of Ari.

Every time I saw Ari on TV I wanted to smack him. He was such a smartass but not in a good way. I was glad to see him go.

7. He's too lame to be slimy
He's merely memorized two responses to EVERY QUESTION: 1)"We've already addressed that" or 2)"Why don't you ask someone else that?"

Scotty doesn't have a big enough brain to be truly slimy like Ari.

8. His mom was the democratic mayor of Austin!
Maybe he just doesn't have the conviction to spew the nonsense he's asked to...

9. Ari's parents were liberal democrats too.
His father is quoted as saying something along the lines of, "If you wanted to eat in our house you had better vote Democrat" or somthing like that. I read the article a while ago. Dad made Ari out to be the black sheep of the family.

10. Yeah, but Carole Keeton McClellan Rylander Strayhorn Cougar Mellencamp...
...is a Republican now.

Scott's dad was employed in the law firm that handled LBJ's affairs, so he was nominally a Democrat, I would guess.

11. A friendly wager: I bet a doughnut that

Scott McLellan will "get his tit caught in the wringer*" big time before the Christmas season is over (Sunset on Jan. 6, 2004, marking Epiphany, when the Wise and Respected Astrologers who were following the Star arrived at the "Manger 6" motel chain in Bethlehem).

(Conditions: If I win the doughnut must be organic whole wheat,honey-sweetened, glazed with 100% pure Light Amber Maple Syrup, then finished with a dusting of bittersweet Azteca Mexica chocolate powder -- My Dream Doughnut).

*"Tit caught in the wringer" reference is probably attributable to disgraced former Republican Att. Gen. John Mitchell, speaking about the late Washington Post Publisher, Katherine Graham (How I wish she was here now). But memory blurs. The actual vulgarity may be attributable to another among the infamous legions of former, disgraced Republican office holders.

12. absolutely right about wringer quote
that was, of course, in reference to a time when there were actual reporters digging up this strange artifact, now almost never, ever encountered, called "news"

admin was trying to intimidate the Post from continuing their coverage of Watergate, when they KNEW what was going to happen when all the crap they'd pulled was about to see the light of day.

how sad to compare those days to what happens now, when the whores DEFEND their lack of gumption by lamely protesting that there's no "news" anymore, unless the government doles out the press releases for them to dutifully copy down, and send off as investigative reporting.

anyone who saw the pathetic performances of the NY Times, WSJ, and WashPost reporters the last few weeks on CSPAN, as caller after caller demanded to know why they didn't cover news/investigate ANY of the myriad Bush junta depredation knows exactly what I'm talking about

13. I've lost faith in the media, too, citgo
But I am betting some Maverick will arise and somehow invite Scottie Boy to insert tounge and tit in the Great koZmiQue Wringer of Truth, and that Scottie will bumble into it and we may actually get a FLASH OF THE TRUTH.

May it be so.

May my winning doughnut attain the quintessence of doughnuthood.

May all sentient beings enjoy such a superlative doughnut at some point in their present incarnations (but not at my expense).
