Is there any proof that Rush isn't still taking drugs?
I mean, just listening to him makes you wonder if this guy is high but did he make a deal for them to check up on him? I kep hearing that for a guy who was adicted to painkillers for so long 5 weeks just isn't enough time to do the trick.

1. Who would he make a deal with?
He hasn't been charged with any crimes. . .yet.

3. notes
You can't prove a negative.

I'm not up on this OxyCon stuff. How powerful is the addiction, in general? Can anyone say?

Is there a substitute, ethical or otherwise?

I would assume that getting it for him now would be difficult if not impossible. In that calculation is a judgment about the danger and difficulty of getting it. He would be subject to blackmail and this time almost certain professional destruction if he were exposed as back on the stuff and figuring he would need a new source I'd say the risk is just to great to him to try.

4. I ask this because.....
I tuned in last week & he sounded like his words were slurred (or maybe he was just excited & couldn't talk fast enough, who knows)I was wondering if his slurred speach was do to his hearing loss or if he was still having trouble w/withdrawl.

6. When I've listened recently
(which isn't much) he sounded really, really high to me. I don't think the slurred speech has anything to do with his hearing loss, since he's had the cochlear implant for a while now, and if he truly quit when he went into rehab then he should be past the stage of physical withdrawal symptoms, except for the craving.

5. He's an addict.
The risk was high that he would be blackmailed and caught the first time, and he did it anyway. And nothing is impossible to get when you have enough money.

As to the OxyContin, I've heard that it's one of the most difficult drugs to kick.

7. Not to mention that narcotic pain meds destroyed his hearing...
and he had to have freaking cochlear implants, and HE STILL was hooked.

OxyContin is a powerful narcotic with some other pain meds thrown in with it. It's called "Hillbilly Heroin" for a reason. And although I hear it's harder to get addicted to it than street-grade heroin, once one is addicted to it it's just as hard to kick. It's rough stuff and there's a good reason why it's a tightly controlled substance.
