"This Republican Has Some Doubts"
"I have been a Republican my whole life and beliefs of liberty, small government, reverence for the Constitution and a fiscal discipline are typical among people who think like I do. But the politicians who said they believed in these concepts are nowhere to be seen. Above all, President Bush, who ran on the platform of "Not Believing in Nation Building," is currently building two, and no Republican seems to care.

We are in the midst of a media blitz that will last until the next election, and this Republican has some questions he would like answered."

2. Excellent.
Right now, I'd settle for another level headed Republican over W. To be honest, I sort of miss the good ol days of bickering about how much money to spend on social programs, tax cuts etc.

3. Nation building and big spending
I agree, I thought he was against nation building too. I also thought he was a fan of smaller government and restraining spending. Has he ever vetoed any spending bill? Yikes. Look at the increase in spending in his first term compared to Clinton.

4. The key here is: what happens when the parties on the ballot...
don't represent us...? THAT'S what this gentleman wants to point out.
Scary...very scary...

5. I used to be a moderate, midwestern Republican and I had to
acknowledge in the '80s that "these are not my people". When the big business, right-wing, religious right combination took over then it was no longer the party of fiscal restraint nor the party that protected the Bill of Rights.

As time went on, they became more and more extreme until they arrived at the point they are today. Given the beliefs the gentlemen posted in his first sentence, the Republicans are no longer his party, either.

6. Bush says, "Put your beliefs aside..."
If we can spend $400 billion on Medicare, we may be able to take that issue from the Democrats. Forget about deficits. We are spending it to keep the big spending liberals from spending it. I wonder how many true conservatives believe that line of crap?
