Daschle Letter to Ashcroft: 'Classified Leaks Continue'
Asking the same questions many of us have been asking.

Daschle Letter to Ashcroft: 'Classified Leaks Continue' http://www.truthout.org/docs_03/122303A.shtml

Dear Mr. Attorney General:

On September 29, 2003, we wrote to you and to the President requesting the appointment of a special counsel to investigate the unauthorized disclosure of the identity of an undercover CIA officer. You rejected this request, stating that the Department of Justice would initiate a criminal investigation of this matter instead. However, based on what we have seen to date, it is far from clear that the Administration and your department are truly committed to taking the steps necessary to apprehend the person or persons responsible for this grave national security breach.

More than five months have passed since the first press report disclosed the name of the CIA officer and more than two months since your investigation was initiated. The press reports that you are receiving detailed briefings on the status of this case from the Justice Department employees conducting the investigation. Given your refusal to name a special prosecutor and the fact that you are a political appointee of the President, receiving briefings on an investigation of officials of this Administration creates, at a minimum, the appearance of a conflict of interest.

We believe it is essential that you give our intelligence community personnel, the Congress, and the American people confidence that the Justice Department is thoroughly and aggressively pursuing all leads in this case without concern for its political ramifications. Recognizing that this is an ongoing criminal investigation, we request that you provide us with an overall status of the investigation, including the number of people the Justice Department has interviewed, the number of briefings you have received, the general types of information you are briefed on, what conditions you have placed on the scope of these briefings to ensure the independence of this investigation, and whether you have discussed this case with senior Administration officials outside the Justice Department.

As we wrote in September, we believe it is critical that this matter be investigated as quickly, thoroughly, and as impartially as possible. If, as has been reported, senior Administration officials disclosed this confidential information, they should be prosecuted and, if found guilty, dismissed from their positions of public trust.

1. Evolution
Apparently, Daschle has evolved a primordial spine. Sure, it's only cartilage at this point, but we could look at some backbone evolving in Dems some time in the next centruy.

2. good.
didn't Bush himself say that "We will probably never know the identity of the leak" ? thus stating that a leak did exhist and wouldn't that help build a case for an investigation?

Rove, better get that passport ready

Sorry, Tom
Too little, too late. The time for action and demands for justice passed the moment you allowed the cartel to take control of this investigation. You knew then, just like now, they will never allow the truth to come out. Never.

I see this whole incident as having already been washed and scrubbed and we will never find out the truth. Just like 9/11 and just like Iraq. This letter will mean nothing to this administration of liars and thieves. Daschle's so-called leadership of the Democratic party is a laughingstock and no one takes him seriously, least of all Ashcroft. I don't see this as having any effect - good, bad or indifferent.

Nice try though, Tom.

5. Sen Kerry sent a letter to bush dated yesterday
asking for an independent investigation of ashcroft about federal crimes he allegedly committed during his 2000 Senate Campaign. You know the campaign - he cheated and still lost to a dead man.

I think we should take a moment and contact Daschle's and Kerry's Offices and thank them for their efforts and urge them to continue.

9. Yes, and I'd like to see an investigation into who made Carnahan dead
Of course, as we all know, political assassination isn't used in Amerika...only every other country since human history began.

But of course, Ashcroft sees the "real killer" every morning in the same place OJ sees him.

In the mirror.

8. Poor Tom: he still thinks he lives in the Old American Republic
And yes, I have no doubt that the Imperial Busheviks and their cronies, upon reading this letter, must have burst out with laughter at the continuing naivete of their Enemies of the State.

Sure, Asscroft is going to find the Plame Leaker

Just like he has done such a great job finding all his other friends such as the Anthrax Assassin.

Oh how the Busheviks must laugh. Power is not meant to wielded with compromise, according to the Imperials, and I'm sure Reichsmarshall Asscroft will prusue this at least as diligently as Molotov investigating criminal activity at Karagranda or Vorkuta.

It is funny, in a pathetic sort of way, to see the Democrats so completely befuddled about their role in Imperial Amerika.

Got news for you folks...the time to fight was 20 years ago, 10 years ago, or perhaps in Dec. 2000, when the Old Amerikan Republic formally began it's shuffling death march.

Now it's just pathetic, watching you all beg from tyrants who would kill you if they were yet able, and who will kill you, if like Wellstone and Carnahan, you become a threat.

Pathetic state, that of the opposition to a brutal Emperor and his ruthless minions, whining for scraps from the Imperial Table, or begging them to enforce the rules they have laughingly broken and will continue to do so, or wheedling them to enforce the law against themselves when everyone in the world and half of Imperial Amerikan Subjects know that the Imperials are simply not bound to the rule of law.

Sick and sad world we live in today. Dacshle's letter is as impotant as a request to Himmler to investigate conditions at concentration camps, and will be met with the exact same laughable indifference.

10. The Letter From Daschle Was Handled Thusly:
JA: "What's this? A letter from Tom Daschle? How quaint. Agnes, please put this in the circular file". Agnes proceeds to throw the letter in the trash, unopened.

11. TWO Administration officials have created the crime of Treason
The crime of Treason does not have 'dismiss from office' as a resolution. The two guilty parties would serve long term federal
time or the death penalty, as they should for betraying us all.

So, there you have it.

Game over, Daschle.
