Nine tales of a society scared into stupidity

At a party the other night, five people were talking about their experiences, or those of relatives and friends, while crossing the American border.

As law-abiding citizens, they do not begrudge the need for post-9/11 vigilance. They even understand the occasional arbitrariness that might creep into the immigration screening process.

What they are saddened about is the bad manners, arrogance and the seeming racism of the immigration officials involved, as well as the obvious idiocy of some of the policies of the Bush administration.

Herewith, the stories told by the five people, plus four from elsewhere.

1. Add to that the New fingerprinting of ALL visitors

Florida depends on Canadians and Germans for a lot of their winter tourist Dollars... Slowly the Bushes are pissing off the world.

2. People from the Free World SHOULD fear Totalitarian Societies

Thus it is perfectly understandable why our neighbors to the North would increasignly fear their barbaric neighbors to the South.

However, for Canada, a Tyrannical Society cannot tolerate a Free Society right next door, so look for George P. Caligula oor one of the far-future Bushevik Emperors to deal with you then.

3. Having worked with Canadian tourists in the past,

the big complaint was that their dollar didn't have the same purchasing power in the US. Some businesses along the Canadian border often took Canadian dollars in place of American in order to entice them to shop across the border even though they got maybe 80 cents at that time in exchange.

Now harrassing them at the border will really keep them at home.
