What ever happened to 'Love Your Country?'
Edited on Wed Dec-24-03 12:24 AM by Drew the Independent
You would think, from a casual reading of this board, that there are more than a few anti-americans posting on a regular basis. I have never seen some so hell-bent on pushing their political views that their first line of defense or retort is to bash someone with a fierceness that would scare away children. Why is America evil? Would they rather be living in Iraq right now? Doubt it. How about Nazi Germany, if we hadn't stopped that evil dictator. Would they feel so cozy under Hitler? Nope. But, oh yeah, America is Evil.

Before you America bashers take another breath, please think for a second, remember that this is the only place IN THE WORLD where you can so blatantly bash your country without fear of persecution. Now, exhale that breath of FREEDOM that you just took, and see if you can't learn to love your country. Then, and only then, will your arguments, ideas, and principles be credible and listened to by people who do love their country.

GOD BLESS AMERICA!

2. Do you love your great leader, George W Bush, also?
Do not confuse our dislike for this would-be dictator as hatred for our country. You have a lot of gall to even suggest such an idea.

6. My Great Leader
....is God. And no, I don't blindly follow GW just because republicans say that I should. I DID vote for him, but only because I had serious hangups with a lot of what Gore believed in. However, there are 2 Democratic candidates right now, that if either one becomes the nominee, I will vote for him over Bush in '04. So do not attempt to categorize me as a blind 'Bush Follower.' I am far from that.

What I was referring to was all the posts like....

Saddam was a bad guy, but

Even though Saddam was bad, we shouldn't have....

Irag is not a safer place after our actions because

We invaded Irag for the oil, and GW is an oil guy...

This is all RIDICULOUS. For anyone to try and justify leaving Saddam in power (and I have seen those types of posts here) is insane. We should remove ANY dictator that follows Saddam's path, and also any Government that does the same.

As the only true free international power left in the world, it is incumbent upon us to do what is best for the long term, regardless of its current popularity. The world is better off without Saddam. Period.

11. Again, your grasp of geopolitics is lacking
"As the only true free international power left in the world"

Not that you'll be around long enough to learn anything, but the US press ranks 17th in the world in press freedom-in other worlds, we don't really have a free press, as guaranteed by our Constitution.

All the European countries except Italy, Greece and Serbia are in the top 15. So your argument holds no water.

14. Then why don't you move
Move to one of those great European countries, and bash America from over there, since their press will certainly allow it. Oh yeah, exactly NONE of those countries could defend themselves in even a small war. I think you missed the word POWER in my post. Everyone doesn't run to France, Sweden, The Netherlands, etc., when they need help.

17. Then why don't you move to Iran
where the people are one, and never criticize their government under pain of death? Seems like you would be happier there.

19. Because my family has been here since the 1600s
and that is such a lame ass argument: Love it or Leave it. Might makes right. Why don't you go enlist?

Who gives a shit if my country can beat up your country? Sounds like you're trying to make up for your 'shortcomings'...ahem :eyes:

You dont beleive this? Do you think that this administration is on the level?
Which of the several reasons for invading Iraq do you beleive is true. There were several you know, and they have allready backed off on a couple.
Bu$H could give a shit about the people of Iraq and their freedom. If you beleive otherwise you are either seriously misinformed or very naiive.
I LOVE MY COUNTRY BUT I HATE THE FACISTS THAT ARE RUNNING IT INTO THE GROUND RIGHT NOW!
And who the fuck are you to tell people to move if we dont like the govt.

Citizens are not free from being persecuted in the USA. Just ask the Dixie Chicks.

10. Now that's ridiculous
If what happened to the Dixie Chicks is your idea of persecution, then 'you are very wrong'

Go and ask the families of the people whose bodies are being dug out of mass graves what persecution means to them.

16. You mean the thousands of Iraqis we killed?
So that Halliburton (Dick Cheney's employers) can win exclusive contracts to feed troops spoiled meat?

People who support Bush and his phony war are a disgrace to the country.

Do you REALLY believe that what is going on in Iraq has ANYTHING to do with a few corporations in America wanting to make money? I really am curious....

haven't you already posted this propaganda on other threads? Remember. We don't have to fall lockstep with Der Fuhrer Bush to love America. Your knowledge of our Constitution appears to be lacking.

8. Our cause is just!
"We know that sacrifices lie before us and that we must pay a price for the heroic act of being a vanguard nation. We leaders know that we must pay a price for the right to say that we are at the head of a people which is at the head of the Americas."

12. What about Canada?
Edited on Wed Dec-24-03 12:36 AM by Argumentus
If we lived in Canada we could bash our country, right? And maybe Austrailia? Iceland and Greenland both come to mind, too, and South Africa now that apartheid is dead. Oh, and I hear Indian politics get pretty brutal, too.

On edit: Belgium, Holland, and Italy, too.

13. I DO LOVE MY COUNTRY
that is why I served my country in the military, that's why I'm a Democrat and that's why I AM SO DAMN ANGRY. That we would allow an incompetent, unelected piece of GARBAGE to "lead" my beloved America - it's a SIN. I will never get over the theft of democracy and if YOU were a true PATRIOT, NEITHER WOULD YOU.

18. Most all of you are missing my point
I didn't suggest ANYWHERE in my post that we should all fall in line and be GW's little lackies. There are lots of his policies that make my blood boil.

HOWEVER, I will not let that affect my love for my country. Like it or not, GW is the President for the time being. We, as AMERICANS, should be AMERICANS. Bash his politics. Bash his character. Love your country.

Most of the replies to my post dive right into Bush Bashing, and I never took up for or defended him in what I said. It just shows, as I pointed out, that there are SOME on this board whose blind hatred for one man is skewing their view of America and Americans as a whole.

YOU CAN LOVE YOUR COUNTRY AND DISAGREE WITH YOUR LEADER AT THE SAME TIME.
