Poll question: Do you expect a terror attack?
I'm not sure if this has been done before, but in light of the Orange alert, do you think an attack is likely?

2. I fly to China in couple of weeks out of LAX.
I've though about it and what can you really do? Nothing. So I just go about my business. All we hear is we're so much safer b/c of King Bush, b/c we got Saddam. Then just a few days later it's time to shit our pants? Al Qaeda is at the front door? Whatever.

8. IN fact, He Just Did
This whole alert system is designed solely to terrorize the US Population. It serves no other purpose.

Bad break on the news? Can't spin it away?

Time for a Terrorist Alert! Ratchet it up a notch, Tom!

5. Could anyone who thinks an attack is very likely discuss?
I just don't see it. As bad as some muslim fundies may want to hurt the US, I'm more worried about the people in this country whose interests are served by further incidence of terrorist acts, and the fear that inspires.

6. When would it be best for bush? That's when it'll happen
I'm betting on late May/early June, right around the Democratic convention. During July or August, I expect the administration to take Usama out of the fridge. A few "thwarted" attempts during October should seal the deal for a bush election.

12. Well,
As much as I would like my government to not lie to me as a Christmas present. Having a City blow up would not be what I was wishing for... That said I think it's purely PR and the canceled flights are just them Covering their ass for when nothing happens. They will just say well those canceled flights must have been it.

14. No - In my opinion, it's all smoke and mirrors...
I think they're probably trying to see if they can claim to do something similar to the capture of the Y2K bombing ring to suggest they have a decent anti-terrorism policy. It's also a form of "protection shakedown" - notice that the announced targets seem to be more "blue" than "red". The whole thing seems to me to be a bit like coming into a store and telling the owner that you predict (s)he needs extra fire insurance "if ya know what I mean"...

Besides, if you were a real ideological-based terrorist (instead of just a thug), would you really continue your activity once the plan has been blown, or wait and re-plan for a time and place least expected?
(Mind you, I'm not claiming to actually know a terrorist, I'm just familiar with the historical difference between partisans and/or fanatics basing their actions on a particular socio-psychological strategy and schoolyard bully/gangsta types who just want to be king of the hill no matter who gets in the way...)

... is not going to pick an obvious time or place to attack. 9/11 was a pretty nondescript date before 2001.

Now if they were pals, they'd go for April 15 and not only give us all an excuse for paying taxes late, but also make Shrub wait a while for his war money. Maybe long enough so the Pentagon shuts down?

from this administration.

I expect them to continue their attacks and they will only end after January 21, 2005 when we have a new president.

19. Do you feel in your bones that something is about to happen....?
I do too. It may not be a terrorist attack - it could be a natural disaster (from reading the story about Yellowstone -that's scary!)
Could be I just returned from watching LOTR - Return of the King? Lord knows it had enough war and violence in it.

But sometimes people are jittery like wild animals and they don't realize why they are jittery. Sometimes they don't even realize they are jittery. All things shall pass...including this "fear fatigue' that should have never been told about a terrorist threat unless it is real. The world is in a shitty mess.

Will we ever be able to repair our relationships around the world? Conservatives and right-wingers might say who gives a damn? But people that wish to live happy lives, in peace with ourselves and our neighbors, do not wish to live in such a world as this. They want a leader that reflects the best of America - not the worst.

21. It's inevitable.
As long as the US continues to try and establish hegemony over the rest of the world, there are bound to be repercussions. Not if but, when and where are the unknown factors.

BushCorp has managed to alienate most of the rest of the world. If not the governments, then the people. How many more can CorporateAmerica rip-off, starve, exploit, and outright murder before we will have to pay the price? How much longer will we be required to send our soldiers to protect the likes of Halliburton and Exxon? How much longer will we deprive our own people to pay the expense of protecting the corporations and the wealthy?

It's just a matter of time.

Fact: Al Quaida does not care if there is a Democrat or a Republican in the White House and even if we elected a Green, a socialist or an anarchist it still would not matter.

there will be more attacks, I can't believe we've not had a suicide bomber thusfar.

Freedom from dependency on foreign oil will be the only thing that will end this. If we do not hit it hard now, the pugs will make it their pet issue. To make them look stroger on "protecting America".

I'm not sure that an attack is 'imminent', but I DO expect one on US soil some time in the next year, so I voted '50/50'.
