FDA database reveals 300 U.S. companies violated mad cow rules
I never noticed this story last October in the mainstream press...did you?

WASHINGTON, DC, October 14, 2003 (ENS): A total of 300 U.S. companies are in violation of federal regulations meant to prevent mad cow disease, according to analysis of the U.S. Food and Drug Administration's (FDA) database of animal feed company inspection records. The analysis was released Friday by the environmental group Friends of the Earth in the wake of the FDA's first update of the information in the past 17 months.

The number of companies violating the law is more than double the number listed by the FDA in April 2002. The regulations are meant to prevent cattle and other ruminant parts from being fed to cattle and other ruminants. This practice was once common, but is now outlawed because it is considered the most likely means to spread mad cow disease - also known as Bovine Spongiform Encephalopathy (BSE).

The disease is suspected of causing a related and fatal brain disorder in humans called Creutzfeldt Jakob disease

This link was also listed in the article but I cannot find the database..article does not link directly to it...scrubbed?

2. I don't care how much it costs...ALL cows must be tested..NOW
Edited on Wed Dec-24-03 06:47 PM by SoCalDem
If we can find 87BILLION for Iraq, we can certainly find the money to test every cow, and destroy ALL the "proteinized" livestock feed.. There is no reason on earth to just pretend that everything's "okey-dokey" and go on like before.. We SHOULD have done this when the Canadian case was discovered, instead of acting smug and telling people it "can't happen here"..

Ole Ann Veneman lied through her teeth yesterday.. It CAN be spread more easily than she let on..

It could be in pet foods, canned foods.. Anyone give their kids Beefaroni?? Anyone use prepared spaghetti sauces?? Prepared infant formula?? These products COULD already contain it..

That cow was 4 years old and does anyone believe for a minute that the feed that gave it to HER was ONLY fed to HER?? Where are the rest of the cows that ate that feed?? How many other cows were fed that same feed??

We take shortcuts..and we always get caught eventually...so why not attack the problem aggressively and put all the fears to rest?? Of course the livestock lobby will be out there spinning and promising all kinds of money if the congress looks the other way...but their MAIN reason for existing is to PROTECT the public.. They have let us down on water, air, healthcare, taxes, social security...and now they have a chance to let us down on FOOD..

It's not just for the meateaters.. Thare are lots of foods that "appear" to be meatless, but are not.. Even broth made from "infected" sources could transmit this disease..

4. GregW just sent me this in my inbox..
It's from Rense.com, which is sometimes :tinfoilhat:, but this is pretty straigtforward.. So even if you are a vegetarian, you "might" be injesting/using some of this stuff without even realizing it..

Remember too, that our school lunches get a lot of ambiguous surplus stuff..:(

In light of the potentially catastrophic spread of Mad Cow/nvCJD prions worldwide (UN WHO statement) throughout the food chain and environment, and my continuing call for completely new, mandatory universal medical/dental sterilization protocols - including the absolute cessation of the reuse of all invasive instruments and equipment - this incredible list will come as quite a surprise to many.

I've broken most of the items down into Medical, Food, and General/Industrial categories to facilitate a grasp of the enormity of the use of animal products in our lives and the potential vectors of Mad Cow/CJD prions. This categorization is not necessarily complete; there are some consumables which are not listed in FOOD, for example, but the general point of the list is simple: just because one doesn't eat meat or dairy, doesn't mean one is necessarily safe from potential exposure to Mad Cow prions and contaminated/infected products from cattle.

With the recent discovery in the UK that tonsils of BSE/TSE infected individuals contain the Mad Cow/CJD killer prions, one wonders if other body tissues might be similar repositories. One also ponders the ongoing and bizarre issue of mass cattle and other animal mutilations and wonders whether this is some kind of monitoring process to track the spread of environmental decay and toxicity...and prion diseases.

From anti-aging creams to surgical sutures to chocolate milkshakes and marshmallows...we have injected animal products from cattle, sheep, and hogs into nearly every corner of our lives. Behold...
