trying to make DU look like a bunch of left-wing loonies?
However, you're right up to a point in that the traditional colors of Santa's outfit (white and red) was first devised by Coca-Cola in their advertising (apparently).

Sure Santa Claus is a mostly capitalism based entity and Christmas is based on his presence as a way to draw parents and family to the store to spend like crazy, but it is a double edged sword. The myth of Santa Claus has instilled a hope and possibly higher purpose of giving and caring to people all over the world.
So while the media and corporate entities have used and whored the image for over a century, we can give the image of Santa a pass because of all of the good it does in return for people everywhere.
And where else is a symbol of capitalism actually something that affects everybody in positive ways regardless of financial means?

7. Funny, I thought St. Nicholas was a real person in history...lol |
|
A Saint in the Catholic church who was known to give toys to the poor children in his town once a year. The capitalists have just corrupted him.

10. Oh geez leave santa alone |

All santa does is add a little magic to the world of children. Have you seen the kids when they go to the mall to see him, their little eyes light up. It's beautiful to witness, it really is.
They have plenty of time later in their lives to deal with real world issues.

Wears red. Spies on all the children. Gives out gifts and you don't have to work for it. A religious subversive, also.

A LIE? Are you sure? My mommy told me differently!
The presents under the tree, and the bites out of the cookies I left for Santa, sure seemed real to me!
