It Says "New Secular Order" on the Dollar Bill?
Anyone else read the Dan Brown book "Angels & Demons"? He talks about the Great Seal on the dollar bill, which includes among other things, the words "Novus Ordo Seclorum", which he translates as New Secular Order. Kind of conflicts with "In God We Trust" doesn't it? I thought it was very interesting, if anyone wants to read the rest of his explanation about the Great Seal, read pages 111-112 of the paperback, and make sure you have a dollar bill handy.:)

1. Don't bring this to the administration's attention!
They'll get their yes-men in Congress to jam through legislation to force the Treasury Dept. to remove that troublesome little Latin phrase.

2. Don't forget the influence of the Masons in this country....
the "All seeing Eye" on top of the pyramid? Very esoteric and ancient in meaning.

The Masonic order has great influence in the halls of power in this country.
It is a group that promotes rationalism, deism and progressive morality, from what i understand. My father was "Worshipful Master" of the state of Fla. before he passed away. The Masons are a very ancient order and worldwide in their scope.

5. Masons are mentioned in the book also
Haven't finished the book yet, but he talks about Vice President Henry Wallace, who was a Mason, being responsible for the Great Seal being used. Franklin D. Roosevelt was also a Mason (according to the book, I haven't checked anywhere else to verify).

6. Charles Thomson coined the motto:
Novus ordo seclorum. The preferred translation, according to the U.S. State Department, is: "A new order of the ages."

9. I'm going to let the fundies know this is on the dollar...
Next time they try to tell me this is a Christian nation because that's what the money says. Bet most of them don't have a clue of the symbolic meanings in the Great Seal.

4. Hey now. This is a Christian nation founded on the Bible.
We will have no talk of the New Secular Order in here. You want to bring on the anti-christ or something? Seesh!

<sarcasm above for those who missed it>

13. i've always heard it as:
"novus ordo seculorum" is "a new order established" refering to the foundation of a representative republic out of all the old monarchies of europe. the "god favors our undertakings" is also a reference to the newness of that idea. all very heady post-independence stuff.
