Why do we let the media spin everything we say!
Edited on Fri Dec-26-03 08:50 PM by mot78
I'm tired of seeing people like Clark or Dean get singled out with out-of-context quotes. It's not just NewsMax or Faux that's carrying these quotes, it's the AP and Reuters as well. Isn't it about time we start confronting the media directly instead of giving Dukakis-like responses to their attacks. Why not attack their integrity? Next time they run a tv ad describing us as pessemistic and negative, we should air one with Ann the Man and Hannutty shouting of us!

1. Where will we run those ads?
In the media?

We run a one minute spot, then they have 23 hours and 59 minutes to spin everything their way.

Until we actually have our own mainstream widely distributed and watched television media, we're screwed.

8. That will never happen...that we have our own media to compete...
We have to take back our airwaves from the present abusers. It would take a hundred years to build up a communications system equal to the present corporate media. We don't have time to build up a competing propaganda system.

For starters, our leaders need to start challenging the media, as if they are part of the opposition, because they are. Once they get called on their little games a few times, they will think twice about the nonchalant way they now support the Republican Party. Much like General Clark put the pipsqueak from FOX-TV in his place. That is the way htey have to be handled.

2. maybe there are other ways we can fight back...
I vowed a few weeks ago that I would donate ten dollars to a progressive cause or candidate everytime DU was bashed on some RW media outlet. I know not everyone can do that(if they keep it up,I'm not sure 'I' can do it..lol) but there are other positive acts we could take in response to negatives from the RWers. Besides donating money there are things like writing letters to the editor, talking one on one with a potential voter, anything that transforms their slam into a progressive act. It won't stop it,but maybe it could help to negate it in some small way.

3. wouldn't it be easier to write better speeches ?
and quit giving them ammunition to hurl back at us ?

Never heard anyone be able to twist anything Edwards said. ITs not like it can't be done by a legitimate polititian and statesman.

4. You are kinda mixed up Mot78
Ann the Man and Hannuttuy are not canidates. The press has No reason to bother with what they say. Clark and Dean, are Canidates. If they are messing up then it will be reported. That is the why you are looking for.

7. Umm, no
Bush is a candidate as well. Not only are his comments NOT being taken out of context, when he screws up his comments simply aren't reported upon at all. Or, if they can't be hidden, they are proclaimed to be "brilliant" and "his strongest speech yet" as the talking heads coo over how he has grown so much into his role as savior of all of mankind.

11. I saw no mention of Bush in the original post.
Reporters are not canidates and that is that. You cant mix media with canidates. Ann and Hannutty arent running for office and, like it or not they do have freedom of speach. If a canidate, any canidate, makes a gaff that is for them to live with. I dont disagree with your feelings of talking heads but that is what they are. They are not trying to be Head of State. There is a thing called freedom of speach and that goes both ways.

10. Sometimes it looks like the bosses at the networks called.....
everyone in and said, "Look, we are at war with terrorists and we do not want to make Bush look bad no matter if he picks up a pile of horseshit with his bare hands...We don't want to give the impression that he's the dumbest asshole that ever sat in that Oval Office...We must pretend that he is strong and decisive, so as not to encourage any further attacks by those that might see him for what he is..."
