Legend? Bush to Carrier: "I have the balls"
in case you missed, this one is good......

back when the mission was about to be accomplished, apparently our Deserter in chief tried to ''call the ball,'' as his plane approached the USS whatever.

this morphed into an apocryphal statement "I have the balls!"---repeated on the Neal Boortz show, and given intenet life by some bogus emails from "those who were there"

calling the ball refers to the apparatus with which pilots must align the plane on landing approach. this harrowing procedure is most vividly recounted in one of the vignettes in Tom Wolfe's "Mauve Gloves, Madmen, Clutter, and Vine"

after seeing the sham/scam of the carrier fiasco, I was strongly reminded of this story, and how utterly infuriating it was to hear the propagandists dare to imply that dumbo was in ANY way in control of that plane he rode in on......we all know why that bulge was there in his flight suit: his Depends game unattached and bunched up in front.

the BEST part of this story, apparently the only accurate (though unverifiable) part, is that Mr. Expletive actually DID try to give the signal that they'd acquired the proper landing path, but he HIT the WRONG BUTTON, and didn't transmit the info to the tower.

sort of like the "goof" that sent us to war in the first place?

is there synchronicity lurking somewhere in this incident?

can't even hit the right switch......

2. ".. but he HIT the WRONG BUTTON ..."
He is lucky he didn't hit the EJECT button. The boy should have been sitting on his hands.

6. MD-80
is that an airliner?

anyway, what do you think about the AWOL thing, speaking as an actual carrier pilot?

did you read Tom Wolfe's story on you and yours?

if not, I'd love to hear what you have to say about it.

I read it over 20 years ago, and it still "resignates"

7. The MD-80 is a twin engined, passenger jet
the "MD" part stood for "McDonnel Douglas" before Boeing acquired that company.

9. Flash correction of a misconception!
I was NOT a Navy pilot. I was a US Army pilot flying US Navy aircraft (the SP-2E), living with the US Navy (NAF Cam Rahn Bay), training Navy NATOPS, and a member-in-"fair"-standing of the Cubi Point Naval Air Station Officers' Club (got real drunk there once), Subic Bay, Phillipine Islands. But, otherwise, just an Army Puke.

Two turnin', two burnin'.

12. Naw, Skitt
I was "Top Shootist," and the shooting had nothing to do with guns. It was all radio tracking. Tracking the NVA and VC by their radio transmissions. If I say any more, "they" will kill me.

11. wouldn't let him sit up front next to you, then?
I remember that story you told a while back about the corporate jet. I can only imagine what that type of guy (who fancies himself a pilot, especially after a couple of drinks) might get up to in the cockpit!

3. Maybe what he said was "I am a dick"
or "I have the balls painfully bunched up in the front of my flight suit" but the last part of his message was cut off :-)
