I just sent CNN another email about Robert "Traitor" Novak
I basically said that I found it hard to believe that a network of CNN's esteemed reputation would employ a man with an integrity problem like Robert Novak's.

Yeah, its hogwash (of course CNN employs such people), but it is probably more persuasive than rabid Novak-CNN bashing.

I suggest DUers send emails, faxes, and letters of similar content. We need to let CNN know it is in their best interest to dump Novak before the shit really hits the fan on the Wilson/Plame investigation.

1. Good Idea, I am sending this comment to CNN:
Dear CNN:

CNN should fire Robert Novak and immediately encourage any and all employees to divulge any information on the CIA leak scandal to the new special counsel, Patrick Fitzgerald. To continue to employ Novak, who willingly placed Plame’s career and possibly her life in jeopardy, is unconscionable. Novak played a stooge for Karl Rove and the Bush administration. By continuing to give Novak a paycheck you are obviously sanctioning his actions

3. Journalism
CNN is a still a journalism operation. To encourage its staff to divulge sources is in direct violation of what it does. That is not only naive, but dangerous.

5. We're not asking Novak to divulge his source.
The problem is his action: betraying a US government agent. There is no question that he did this.

Should CNN continue employing a traitor?

Let an investigation reveal the details after Novak is fired. (Ha!)

6. That's not what the previous post said
And I quote, "CNN should fire Robert Novak and immediately encourage any and all employees to divulge any information on the CIA leak scandal to the new special counsel, Patrick Fitzgerald."

The word, "divulge" is pretty clear.

7. What Novak did was not journalism
CNN could encourage anyone to provide information on a voluntary basis. Nothing in the first amendment requires them to withhold the names of the perps in this case. It may give them the right not to divulge the names but they certainly could do it voluntarily. They could do this by clearly stating that no one would be punished if they ratted out Novak and his sources.

Novak is a slimy character. He was the only one of six journalists contacted by someone in the Bush administration who would stoop to being a stooge for the administration. I would hope that CNN would no longer give him any air time.

8. That is clearly debateable
But once news organizations start revealing sources, no one will tell them anything. So, like it or not, the First Amendment protects scumbags as well as great journalists.

If CNN did as you say, they would have half their staff quit and they would lose any remaining credibility in the field.

9. I agree that it would be unrealistic
It would be unrealistic to expect anyone at CNN to reveal Novak's source. They do not have to continue giving the jackass a platform though.

11. Did he take part in a crime?
I think that's the question.

12. Then prosecute him
But don't expect him to reveal his source. Even more, expect EVERY major news organization to be on his side because of the principle.

4. I sent an email to CNN
Stating that I'm disappointed that they still employ Novak after being the only journalist to take the bait and put a CIA agent's life in jeopardy. I question the ethics of CNN and hope that they remove Novak from their employment.

14. Hey! ALL this is good! This is exactly what we should be doing.
If they think we don't care, they won't, either.

There needs to be a constant clamor for more attention to be paid to this issue. This potentially TREASONOUS issue.

We MUST keep the flame burning on the Plame affair.
