Remington Razor Anti France Radio Commercial
Edited on Thu Jan-01-04 11:25 AM by Hokies_Against_Bush
Have you heard the sophomoric Remington razor commercial that makes fun of the French military? The plot line (such as it is) is that France has just launched their latest submarine with a polyester hull because of the titanium shortage caused because Remington used all the titanium in their new razors. How stupid is that? Remington must be run by Freepers.

My next razor will be a Braun.

On edit: Maybe a Norelco (see the post below)

Contact info for Remington - let them know what you think!

1. This is so low...so crass...so jingoistic.
I haven't heard this commercial, but I will be on the lookout for it and will certainly phone and write them!

Do you have any more info? Do you know how to contact Remington?

Thanks for posting this alert. We need to stop this kind of jingoism in its tracks.

3. Turns out they also lied about the titanium part
I found this AP article about a lawsuit filed by Norelco making them pull the first version of this ad: (It also has a link to Remington)

2. Braun is owned by Gillette
Other than that: good plan - I've always been happy with my Braun razors .

4. My husband doesn't shave, thank heavens
If he did, he'd throw out his Remington razor. We French-Americans resent such ads!

5. I chucked my Remington razor!!!
That was an insult ungrounded in any truth. The French were a big help to us against the british in the 1700s. They may have peaked militarily at that time and suffered a number of shameful defeats since then, but they are reliable allies that will always need us as we help them. Vive la France!

6. New French tanks
Maybe Remington is right. The newly designed French tanks are designed with only one speed for "forward", and ten speeds for reverse!!

8. Perhaps you should call Chirac and tell him...
...that since you believe the French military is so worthless, they should pull their troops out of Afghanistan.

9. And let's remember who was killed on Reagan's watch in 1983
French peace-keeping troops who were in Lebanon along with the Marines who were killed. We have a long and respected collaboration with the French. These assinine responses by two newbies reveal their lack of knowledge of recent history. It's usually the armchair warriors who cast these stones anyway. :eyes:

12. I've got a great sense of humor
but a lot of folks on this board are sick of the French bashing. Since you're new, I'll give you the benefit of the doubt, but so far I haven't seen any evidence that your sense of humor isn't in lock-step with the Bushbots.

14. Sorry, but bashing long standing allies....
...who fought and died by our side in every major conflict of 20th century, including the Korean War, Bosnia, Afghanistan, and Gulf War 1, as well as approximately 1.4 million French killed in WW1 (and who fought in WW1 for 3 years before the US decided to get involved), just rubs me the wrong way.

You don't hear the French joking about us getting our asses handed to us in Vietnam, do you?

Sorry, but I have nothing but the utmost respect for the French. They are our ally and they have the decency to disagree with us in respectful manner.

20. Haven't read much history, have you?
I seem to recall that Napoleon fellow having a bit of military success. The French bled themselves dry during World War I--and their side won.

Quite a few Frenchmen died before surrendering to the Nazis. While there were some collaborators, there was also a Resistance. My father was shot down over France in 1943 and would have spent the rest of the war in a POW camp without their help.

16. Victor Kiam, owner of Remington, is a jingoist and misogynist
Remember the 1990 Patriots locker room, where the female reporter Olson was intimidated by 5 athletes? In that infamous episode, Victor Kiam, owner of Remington and the Patriots, mocked her and called her a "classic bitch."

He's a piece of work, he really is.

It's an attempt at humor, not an attack on France, calm down.

19. It is an attack on France
This is a line in the commercial:

Remington has sent an apology to France (for using all the titanium) along with a supply of "arm floaties".
