Key West Church of God thinks the rapture will come in '04

the pastor of this church put a number of flyers on the laundromat bulletin board containing his picture and saying thus:

he thinks that jesus will come to earth in '04 for the Rapture and that we don't have much time to prepare. so people are invited to come to the church, I guess to learn how to prepare.

and

over at www.buzzflash.com there is the following article about a Progressive Clergy Leadership Network.

http://www.clnnlc.org/

perhaps the progressive Clergy and the K.W. pastor need to talk.

3. Not being a Christian
sometimes has its consoling aspects. I have such low expectations. But, if the rapture comes and carries off Chimpie and his friends, then its a value-add! Hope it includes John Ashcroft too. All those compassionate conservatives need to stick together anyway.

5. My only fear is
that some wacko fundy will decide to 'help' the Rapture along by triggering nuclear war or something......

When the Millerites thought the Rapture was coming back in the nineteenth century, they sold everything and climbed trees (so as to be closer for the angels to grab, I guess). Some didn't come down for a week. Many of the fundementalist churches around now trace their lineage back to the Millerites.

7. Not to worry
They're being deceived, I believe. I see nowhere in the Bible where Christians get raptured up earlier than everyone else. It's one of the many lies.

10. The Bible also says not to give a set date either
We would know by the signs of the times--that means Christians being persecuted like never before and only being able to buy sell or trade with a mark of some kind--neither one of those two are here yet.

13. But it does give about a 20 year time frame
And so far they've missed it by almost 2,000 years.

Jesus said, "All these things shall happen before this generation is gone". Consider a generation is generally considered about 20 years, and the avg. life expeectency then was about 30 years. But, give them a big benefit of the doubt. Lets say a maximum Human lifespan of about 130 years.

I still have not found any 1,900 year old people running around. Well, maybe Reagan.

12. Don't be fooled!!!!!!
Definitely, most of these people who are prejudice, advocate war, discriminate, and spread hate will not be entering heaven's gate.

9. They can have their "rapture".
And I'll take my thousand years of peace, thank you. Gee, I don't think I could imagine what 1000 years of peace would be like. :)

11. Morons
These idiots say this kinda crap every single new year. It is kind of arrogant to think that because America is attacked or America is under the threat of violence that Jesus will come back. Every other nation on earth is plagued with violence but if we're attacked then it must be a sign of endtimes. That is arrogance at its best. Violence and sin have not suddenly sprang into being. The world has always been a horrid place filled with violence, rape, and murder. Truth is that no one knows when the end is gonna come. No one can say "It will be in 2006."

19. Xian Personal Responsibility???
I've always wondered about the mindset of the far right religious extremists who would set up a H*ll on Earth by gutting enviornmental protection and wild areas, then defunding the measures put in place for social welfare. They make the mess or make it worse, then they expect to be lifted to a Heaven where they don't have to deal with the consequences of their actions, unlike the hapless sinners left behind.

20. If these fundies had any brains, they'd be scared shitless Jesus was on
the way back. Of course if he did, they'd just crucify him again.
I mean, a hippie looking brown-skinned guy wearing sandals, hanging around with a bunch of young guys, advocating peace and love? What a horrible scenario!
