Hoosier Duers - please weigh in... congressional races

we have control of the state house of representatives, a number of mayorships and city councils shifted dem this past election, with Kernan running we have a strong chance of keeping the governor's office. We are not entirely a red state. Moderate - yes. Conservative - in some places, but not overall.

Who is your congressman.

If in a republican district - any buzz yet about democrats thinking of running? If not - any ideas of who might be a good candidate?

Maybe we can share information. Help craft messages that work/sell within our communties and pass those along through party channels.

I live in Baron Hill's district - he seems pretty solid (but we can't take anything forgranted.) I am in Monroe county and I think the western portion of the county is in another district (maybe Buyer?) Used to be represented by Hostettler - but no longer hear the buzz of who might be gearing up to challenge him.

1. My congressman is Mike Pence

He's a lock, unfortunately. All the buzz is that he's being groomed for great things, so it looks like we'll be stuck with him a long time. Last campaign, 85% of his campaign contributions came from out of state.

an appointment or statewide office? The latter would move him out of the congressional pool.

5. Steve Buyer --

-- represents my district, sorry to say. No Democrat has emerged as a likely challenger to my knowledge; the district is so red I doubt if the GOP will ever lose it.

I would love to see Joe hold the governor's chair. He's really great compared to Mitch Daniels.

Does anybody know if Joe Hoggset will run again for Senate or for anything else? He's my family's favorite by far.

A friend suggests a cool thing: If for any reason Lugar had to step down, Joe could appoint Birch Bayh to fill the seat. Two Bayhs would represent Indiana. A long shot, but a nice thought.

Haven't really heard much of Hogsett recently.

If Lugar were to step down (or be appointed up) after two years - I think that Indianapolis Mayor Bart Peterson would be a name bandied about as a possible replacement. I don't know that he would leave his current office too soon after his relection this past November, however.

What are the bigger cities in Buyer's district (the party hq in one of those cities might have the buzz on anyone even contemplating running.)

Wasn't Buyer the one advocating using small "tactical" nukes in Afghanistan?

I miss Birch Bayh, so I just tossed out that dream option. I think Bart Peterson would be really good, or Jill Long (the woman Chocola defeated -- a sad night at my house), or Lee Hamilton (if he wants to).

There was some talk recently that Lugar would replace Powell at State, and then someone would have to appoint his replacement. If Kernan wins, it will be a Democrat, but if it's Daniels, then we get some GOP guy.

I agree with Evan Bayh being too conservative.

Yes, Buyer's the one who called for "limited" nukes. He has the "Ear of the Fuhrer Himself" and nothing came of that bullshit lie about how he had been "called up" for GWII.

I think the only 2 Democrats who would have a snowball's chance of unhorsing him are Andy Jacobs or Evan Bayh. and Evan's already in DC, and becoming a DLC "ReTHUG Light", too.

There are no Democrat Champions here in the North part of the stae. We can take Mayoral and City Council races, but Count Chocola and Steve Buyer are almost unstoppable.

8. I'm in LaPorte County - stuck with Chocola

I am involved in the grass roots level as Precinct Chairperson of my township. Democrats in our area worked to get Jill Long Thompson elected and she carried LaPorte County. Unfortunately, with Bush/Cheney coming in to stump for Chocola as well as lots of money for televised political commercials attempting to smear Jill, phone calls that would rival the worst no call list offenders, and too much money to compete and I suspect too many people dazzled by the Bush/Cheney appearances in the South Bend area the yes boy won the election. As for our area, he has done nothing. He is proud to put out flyers about how he had a hand in voting for the new healthcare bill that recently passed. In my opinion, he is a worthless little yes man and will vote anyway the Bush administration instructs him. He is in no way shape or form a representative to the people of our area.
