If you support the US occupation of Iraq what should the Iraqi people do?

Should they just do as their occupiers tell them to do, because it is for their own good anyway?

Should they just watch as their oil is pumped out by American and British companies and sold for the price that these same American and British companies decide it should be sold for? And paid for in a form of money that the American and British companies decide upon too?

3. I was never in favor of the occupation.

I could only see disaster down the road. I was on a continual slow-burn at the office, when my co-workers brought in their little flags and hung them proudly on their cubicle. I wanted to tell them that their very honorable sense of patriotism had been hijacked, but I thought better of it and went back to work, fuming.

So as far as the Iraqis today: what should they do? I think they are showing the world what they think of the occupation. They are ready to go down for their fellow citizens and their country.

And I also believe that the most profound threat they see today is the attack on their faith, Islam. They perceive that this attack threatens their very existence, their core of being. The attacks on the oil pipelines are of secondary importance. It's actually only seen as another tool for getting the occupiers out, not for preserving the oil for themselves.

So when I read threads about the Southern Baptists ready to move in and "save those heathens" I realize that the Iraqis will take the Baptists, and themselves, down in flames before they let that happen.

7. It's a topic that makes people very uncomfortable

This is the second thread on this very thing that I have seen sink down down. One was a link to an excellent article in Counterpunch, the other was my own personal rant on the subject, which plummetted here, but is viewable on my blog.

While there are plenty who just take for granted that the US knows best for Iraq and its other properties, there are some who feel put in a difficult position discussing this, because they have very special feelings for one candidate or another, and the big argument among the candidates is which one of them will do a better job of administering the occupation.

this vile occupation to begin to answers such an inquiry with honesty, s/he would be forced to stand in the Iraqis' "moccasins." That soft leather footware provides scant protection from shards of metal and land mines. Would I sound harsh if I were to declare that anyone supporting this horror lacks a shred of empathy?

I shut up about everything, let the occupiers restore order, let them collect their profits, and then I move in and construct an orderly revolution. Or would it really be a revolution? 60% of the population would agree with me in general. Yes, let the occupiers clean up, make everything safe, and then I'll head this new democracy with a clear theocratic majority. Long live the rule of law. Heck, let the Kurds stay in the north. That makes my majority even stronger. Who in Iraq will oppose me? The Sunni? Those Saddam loyalists. We can crush them, or what's left of them, with impunity. We will move from the South into Baghdad . . . once everything is safe thanks to our benevolent liberators. Take all the oil you want Halliburton. It all will end soon enough.

It's much easier to tell the occupiers to leave once a "democraccy" is in place and I speak for the people. Thanks for all you've done; now get out. The people have spoken.
