If you hold blank protest signs, can they confine you?
Edited on Mon Jan-05-04 12:19 AM by Must_B_Free
Maybe the new protest strategy sould be to show up with blank signs and yell against Bush instead. That way they can't confine us to "free speech zones". The blank signs would be unprecedented and would symbolize Bush's assault on free speech. It could make a statement. Whaddya think?

It bypasses the issue of free speech and then forces them to deprive us of another constitutional right - free congregation.

19. remember at College of DuPage in 2000?
I tried to get you to come with.....I did exactly that w/ a 2'x3' "W" sign that I took to the Bush rally.

I staple two placards together, then put in side the letters W, O, and L, which I tried to get other people to hold up...but there was NObody else there to do it, and I chickened out on doing it myself.

One guy there, who had a Nader bumper sticker on his tee shirt, was knocked to the ground and roughed up. he told me about it after it happened, and he'd clearly been mussed up.

there were twenty THOUSAND screaming loons there, btw

gave me just a taste of what it must have been like at some of those Munich scenes back almost seventy years ago.

3. That's darn good! The press will get curious and ask wtf?
Another fine way to escape the zone is to dress to blend in then turn your back as the prez shows up. Also raises curiousity from the press since it winds up on camera and not a half mile away.

Or maybe...

This is a(n):

( ) 1. Pro-Bush sign
( ) 2. Anti-Bush sign

and then just not check one until later?

7. I would like that, or
As an extension of the "?" "Question W" movement seen here a while back, maybe just big question marks? Or has that been done?

Its a really good idea though.

9. The question mark is good, but they'll move that to a "free speech zone"
The point here being to not get moved away.

8. Blank is a GREAT idea!
It would be hard to achieve, but not impossible. I like it a lot. I suppose another thought would be to have empty quotation marks or an empty thought/voice bubble to make sure the news can't spin it.

16. this is Bush's Murka
They can confine you for no reason other than Ashcroft (or his goons) say so.

They definitely have removed protestors who were yelling and carrying no signs before.

18. Wrong strategy!
Having been to more than eight major protests against the war and Bush...I can speak with a bit of knowledge about what goes on. so please think about this: Having signs that insult and call names..or that repeat slogans is useless and does nothing at all to change anyone's mind - or get anyone to THINK about what Bush has done to this country. I hope everyone is planning to come to NYC in August to protest the GOP convention...but before you do...here's an important article - DON'T YELL, SELL! (also some really good free downloads to use and distribute).
