13. I'm torn
between that one and 'Desktop' for funniest ad. You're right though, that one is really good.

6. this is my favorite too, I think that humor is a good way to dispel the
"angry" democrats slam. All them are excellent, but I think that this one will be the most effective. I do like Bush's repair shop and Wake up America as well.

3. Quicktime won't play on my pc.
I don't have enough memory to suit it.

Anyone who wants to give a blow by blow, frame by frame of these commercials, NOT ONE OF WHICH I HAVE BEEN ABLE TO VIEW, would have my deepest gratitude.

4. If you want to watch them
Go to the page to view them, look at the HTML source and find the mpeg URL, paste into Media Player and enjoy.

I have no idea why they require Quicktime for the embedded player. They could have easily made it work for both Quicktime and WMP.

5. Since I'm on dial-up...
... it's very slow going, but if the first one is any indication, they'll all be great. There's the further implication in the first one that the Bushies will eventually push toward rolling back child labor law, as well. Very subtle but strong message about policies, as well as the enlarging debt.

7. Does anyone know when these ads will air? We should buy time for the
Super Bowl, the Oscars, and the final episode of Friends.

12. can we help out
to get these ads shown during those events? I would donate to make sure these ads are shown during those events. I think all of those would be good for getting them in fromt of a broad audience. Especially during football, and the all-start basketball game and football's pro bowl would be good choices as well.

8. fabulous!
I am so impressed with the finalists. I wish they would air all of the spots! (Especially during sports events where I feel one can reach the most diverse audience.) I agree that 'Child's Pay' was a great spot, but I think the most powerful spot is 'Bring 'Em On.' It shows a monochromatic close up of Bush's face as he tells the public that the security of the world requires disarming Saddam Hussien, that Saddam posesses 500 tons of Sarin, Mustard and VX nerve agents, Mobile Biological Weapons Labs and Aids terrorists including members of Al Qaida, he then goes on to say in answer to the threat posed to our soldiers in Iraq 'Bring Em On' all the while a small window superimposed over his face shows the faces of all the US soldiers who have died in Iraq and ends with a title card that says: He Lied, They Died. I believe I will vote for that one to win best animation. 'Human Cost of War' was very powerful, too and 'Army of One.' (along similar lines.) I was also impressed with 'Imagine' which talks about the irony of corporate interests running our nation and felt that the funniest spots were 'Leave no Billionaire Behind', 'Desktop' and 'Hood Robbin.' What can I say, they all deserve to be seen. So download Quicktime and check 'em out.

14. my top picks
btw, the one you called He lied! They died! is actually named: Bring 'Em On ...

My favorites, in order of preference, were:

bring 'em on
polygraph
wake up america (very creative - a bit like Groundhog Day)
child's pay
desktop (graphics a little weak but very creative)

all of them were great ...

the ones that worry me the most are some of the ones with kids in them ... the goal of the ads is to influence opinion ... i'm concerned that some of the ads with kids (not all) may be viewed as exploiting children ... i especially felt that way about: WHAT ARE WE TEACHING OUR CHILDREN? i thought it was a powerful ad but might cause some backlash ...

i hope all DU'ers take the time to see all the ads ... some of them were just totally devastating ... great work by MoveOn and their troops ... i just sent them some cash ...

15. Now that I've had a chance to see them all...
... there's not a bad one in the bunch. Some are more powerful than others, but all are good. I think the kids running for office is quite good--obviously, all the kids took direction pretty well, because they were all trying to pull a Bush smirk, with some success.

I like "Polygraph" and "Gone in 30 Seconds" because there are direct images which most people understand, and lots of visual activity. "Bush's Repair Shop" I would have done differently (at the end, I would have had the car on the rack with pieces of the drive train falling out), but the concept is good. All of the ones relating to lives lost because of Bush administration lies are equally good. I particularly like the ending of "The Human Cost of War": "Lies - The Real Weapons of Mass Destruction" is quite affecting.

MoveOn should be congratulated for what has been a great idea, and I hope some of these get used.

For those asking how to help with getting ads aired, you might go to:

http://www.moveon.org

to make a contribution.

It sounds as if MoveOn intends to air their own ads, and possibly some of these, in swing states during the elections. Since the winners are to be announced Jan. 12th, there will probably be explanation then about how the ads are to be used.

Cheers.

17. "Hood Robbin'" is pretty funny
The Bush's Car Repair is cute, "Leave No Billionaire Behind" is pure utter genius.

The war commercials are just too depressing to get exciting about.

18. Some DU regulars are among the finalists
"Army of One" by Symbolman! And while I don't know if Erich Blumrich posts on DU, someone has been posting links to his stuff for a long time.

Aren't we lucky to have such talented folks at DU?

these fucking ROCK!

Folks, this is democracy at work, this is what this country is capable of!

I'm feeling so excited looking at these ads! They were produced by THE PEOPLE!

This is the coolest thing I've seen in politics in my life! And I'm 41. And I'm not exaggerating!

I see why the RNC and the WSJ are freaked out about this!

They're scared and they fucking should be!
