2. It's not that he said it so much as those listening who nodded

in agreement. I can't change Novak-he's too deeply into whoredom for redemption.I'm offended he said it...but I'm more offended by those who agree.

it's the whole race baiting from Novak that offends me..equating white with patriotism and love of country...making the "non-white" south what? evildoers? But those who hear what he said and think "yes!"..those are the people who rub shoulders with "non-white" America daily and probably act on their belief that white makes right.

3. The South

Well, with my perception, Novak is essentially correct on an entirely superficial level. The Democratic Party has all but abandoned the more conservative, largely white, Southern vote in favor of the minority and the urban vote. It has failed because it let the Republican Party successfully dictate the issues for the past decade. The average white blue collar Southerner has been screwed by their party of choice, but because the Democrats embraced the Million Mommies and has effectively ridiculed Southerner religion and culture with the "Bubba" label, they've lost an important base.
Dean's remarks ,which were hammered by his opponents, were spot on: if the Democrats don't start reaching the Southern, white blue collar vote, they won't have a chance of winning. NAFTA, Bush's attempted repeal of overtime pay, the deficit, and the hemmorhage of manufacturing jobs are good points to attack the Repukes. Further, Dean is no professed gun grabber, so that issue is gone as well.

5. Like it has nothing to do with race or taxes to pay for social programs

Lyndon Johnson said the south would be lost lost for several generations after he signed the civil rights act. Georgia just had a Democratic governor who was endorsed by the NRA and he still lost because of the Confederate flag and BBV. One of few groups of Republican crossover voters Dems get are suburban Republican white women often vote Democratic in protest over the gun crazed RepuKKKes and the bigotry that often accompanies this crowd. If gun owners are so incensed to be lumped into this crowd why don't they renounce the NRA and the even more evil Gun owners of America? Why? Because like Howard Dean they want act like upstanding citizens in public and wink at these bigots when they are in the shadows. It's no accident Dean's last Confederate flag blowup was when he was talking about guns.

A far more honorable and manly way to reach out to Southern working class white men would to run on the success of our military in working through racial problems.

7. Gun grabbing, New England elitists

The Repubs are masters of marketing. They were once thought of as Rockerfeller blue blood WASPS. Now they split us, the blue collars versus the elitist hippies.

The Dems need to at least pretend to be against job killing enviromentalism and gun grabbing to get back the southern states.

really don't get it. A whole lot of white and black, conservative, patriotic southerners don't like a lot of what is going on in Washington and that they generally vote the way they damn well want to!
