I'm a graduate student, so I don't have much income of my own, but don't have too many expenses either. Not sure how much my mom makes, but its probably under $50,000.

6. I used to make 6 figures ....

when I married my husband whose income was about the same - then the tech industry went to hell and now his is our main income. Doesn't do much for my self-esteem except that I keep looking for opportunities and won't give up - that's why we need a pres for US!

20,000 to 40,000 is too big of a bracket to be meaningful. not to mention that 40,000 in NYC is poverty while in rural PA it's almost middle class.

someone in NYC is living as working poor and deserves our assistance more than someone living in rural PA in a middle class lifestyle.

Salaries in NYC are higher than elesewhere on average. Though those making under a certain minimum shouldn't have any tax liability.
