Last night's show was just that, a show. Oh well, here's today's e-mail:
Nightline Daily E-Mail January 7, 2004
TONIGHT'S FOCUS: Secretary of State Colin Powell talks with Ted Koppel about everything from the State Department's relations with the rest of the Administration, growing doubt about whether Iraq ever had weapons of mass destruction, nukes in North Korea - even his recent cancer surgery and career future.
------------------------------------------------------------------------
Just a short time ago Ted Koppel sat down for a lengthy and wide ranging interview with Secretary of State Colin Powell. They discussed the mounting questions about whether Iraq ever had weapons of mass destruction and whether the Administration exaggerated or hyped the intelligence. They talked about the buzz here in Washington that there is increasing tension between the State Department and other parts of the Administration, especially the White House and Pentagon.
While so much of the world is focusing on instability in Iraq and the Middle East, they also took the time to talk about the nuclear threat in North Korea and the sensitive but potentially historic international talks underway there.
They also discussed Powell's personal situation. He is back to working a witheringly long day at the State Department, just weeks after undergoing surgery for prostate cancer. Ted asked him how his health or the political tensions in the Administration might play into his career's future? Will he serve in a Bush Administration second term, if there is one?
And finally, they talked about the single topic, albeit hardly a foreign policy matter, that truly has Washington atwitter: Joe Gibbs returning to coach the Redskins.
For all this and more - we hope you'll join us.
