They're Lying To Us by Aidoneus (thread from June 12, 2002)
The majority of Americans don't seem to care, but they're lying to us. Lying through their teeth, attempting to conceal little, for they know nobody will call them on it. "They" aren't some shadowy cabal of ubersecret oligarchs flying around in black helicopters, "They" are the visible government, the sitting Executive Branch of which was not elected, and the small number of corporations who control the entire mass media, which supports this so-called government and propagates their lies.
These social vampires would have us believe that the world has changed since 9/11, and that we need a new way of thinking:--Oldthink is no longer acceptable. To bring about this change, there is a massive propaganda campaign in the television shows referred to as news networks, and the national nightly news, newspapers, talk radio, and online publications. Go to the movie theatre and watch any of the many movies this year alone that glorify our imperialist wars.
They drag out a frightening story periodically, push it into the faces of anybody paying attention, scream out slogans to drive unimaginable fear of the unknown into their minds, then quietly admit it's all a lie after the frightened masses have been led towards some other fear-mongering canard. The most recent example is the "dirty bomb" scare. Not even a day after it has broken they are downplaying their charges and suggesting that the accused individual may not ever be charged, admitting that their case is nonsense and would be laughed out of any respectable court. They say that there isn't any bomb, and it was just in the planning stages.
"We're at war!"--This mantra is used, mostly by members of the Republican Party and the media oligarchs who support them, to stifle criticism and throw smears at dissenters questioning their patriotism and their loyalty to the country. Senate Majority Leader Tom Daschle was all-but called a traitor not too long ago, for DARING to question the success of Mr W's imperialist world oil war. There are countless other examples, none of them based in reality but believed as canon by millions of the unthinking masses.

Well, Jordan, you're not going to believe what state I was in when I heard about the terrorist attack. I was in Florida. And my Chief of Staff, Andy Card -- actually, I was in a classroom talking about a reading program that works. I was sitting outside the classroom waiting to go in, and I saw an airplane hit the tower -- the TV was obviously on. And I used to fly, myself, and I said, well, there's one terrible pilot. I said, it must have been a horrible accident.
But I was whisked off there, I didn't have much time to think about it. And I was sitting in the classroom, and Andy Card, my Chief of Staff, who is sitting over here, walked in and said, "A second plane has hit the tower, America is under attack."Right there he is flat out lying to us, as he and his handlers have become wont to do when they can get away with it (which is always). He was not called on it by the corporatist media. There was no outrage from the American public, there were no calls for impeachment, as there was not too long ago when another head of the American State supposedly lied to us on national television.
Look at that video above. There was no television outside the classroom. There was no coverage of the first plane hitting before he went inside the clasroom. THEY'RE LYING TO US!
This lie is one of a thousand. And they ask us to trust them whenever they begin to take away one of our hard-earned rights? Who in their right minds would trust these corporatist vampires who have done naught but lie?!
Americans are dying for their lies. Americans are dying for their imperialist oil wars. Americans will continue to die by their hands. Americans will soon be spied on by the most shadowy organization of domestic control since the gestapo or Stalin's NKVD.
What is worse? Nobody seems to care. According to the Washington Post, one of the media outlets that has supported Mr W and propagated the lies of his handlers, most Americans think all of this is a great idea.
Bless the fools, for they have screwed over us all.
